How about another sports anime? Rising Impact follows the basic premise of a young athlete overcoming obstacles to achieve success. But this time the young athlete is very young – like in the 3rd grade.
Gawain lives in a remote mountain village where he and his friends compete on who can hit the baseball the farthest. Of course, Gawain is always the winner. He dreams of becoming a ball player, until he discovers golf by meeting a golf pro named Karia. She recognizes Gawain’s talents, and soon he follows her to Tokyo where he is introduced to the complexities of the sport. It seems that hitting the ball long distances is not what the game is all about.
Soon Gawain is recruited to attend Camelot Academy, Japan’s most prestigious golf school. (Camelot, get it? Gawain was one of the knights of Camelot in the King Arthur legends. Cute, right?) Here his adventures truly begin.
Everyone doubts Gawain’s talents – until they see him play. One by one, however, they become Gawain’s friends. This especially goes for Lancelot (another knight!), the best young golfer in Japan.
The series is entertaining, though by the end of season one I found Gawain to be getting quite annoying. Well, he is about 8 or 9 years old, so he would act like a little kid. But Gawain is always motivated, upbeat, and confident in his ambitions.
The series probably would appeal more to younger viewers. There is no profanity, nudity, or other objectionable material which would be off limits to young kids. Rising Impact will have a second season. It should be interesting to watch.
