Is It Worth Watching Older Anime Series?

Hello everyone.

I've been an anime fan for a while, mostly keeping up with newer releases. I've heard a lot about classic anime series from the 80s and 90s. Shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, and Akira come up frequently. For those who've watched them, do they still hold up today? Are the stories and animation quality comparable to modern standards? I'm curious if it's worth diving into these older series or if they're mostly nostalgic for long-time fans. I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations on which classics are must-watches!

In terms of older anime, the oldest one I know of is Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy. From my millennial generation, the only ones that piqued my interest were the greats, such as Digimon: Digital Monsters, Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, D.N.Angel, The Vision of Escaflowne, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Zatch Bell, and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

Recently rewatched the G Gundam series because I never finished it. It has its up and downs but overall older anime has certain charms. You appreciate the fact that they laid a foundation for series to come. Therefore we probably wouldn’t have gotten any bangers without what preceded it. For example, the recycled animations, the squiggly or dash lines when two characters are “fighting” at an accelerated speed, the missing backgrounds to make the character a focal point…

If the plot line is good it shouldn’t matter how old the series is.

Yes, old anime hits differently then newer anime sometimes. Honestly, depends on your taste, many good anime’s are kinda old. Not sure if this counts but; Igano Kabamaru is pretty good if you wanna give that a watch.
