I had such high hopes. I even watch through episode 10 – that’s 10 of 24. The series started with a good premise, a dark prospect, and some interesting characters. But along the way, Jujutsu Kaisen just got lost.
High school student Yuji ingests the mummified finger of the deadly cursed spirit Ryomen Sukuna. Now they both share Yuji’s body and both fight for control. Invested with a portion of the cursed spirit’s power, Yuji is recruited to be trained as a sorcerer in the battle against these curses. So far, so good. But now the clichés come in.
We get a major character dying and coming back to life. We get a talking animal, in this case a panda, who is also a sorcerer-in-training. We get fellow students such as Magumi and Nobara, who take their jobs seriously, but still get silly at inopportune times. At least with their main teacher Satoru silliness fits in with his character.
Oh, and has anyone seen the evil Ryomen lately? Why hasn’t he shown up for work? Is he at home ill in bed?
Jujutsu Kaisen has a good premise, but it loses its focus as well as the main plot. Though for me, it’s the panda who kills it. Can the panda!
I do give a thumbs up on the artwork and animation. The English voice cast does well. But Jujutsu Kaisen just does not deliver what it promises.
