Japanese style anime has certainly influenced the art of animation the world over. My Daemon is an example. Though created by Japanese anime writer Hirotaka Adachi, this series was actually produced by Thailand’s Igloo Studios. And they did a good job.

A nuclear accident leaves behind radioactive particles which hatch into creatures known as daemons. These daemons vary in size, and many have great powers. As in the case of anything mankind cannot understand, people fear the daemons – all except for one little boy. Kento finds one of these daemons and makes it his pet named Anna. But this is not just another boy-and-his-dog story. No, this one gets dark pretty quick.

Kento must protect Anna from those who would destroy all daemons, and when one daemon hunter threatens them, Kento’s mother dies trying to protect her son. Hearing rumors of a daemon with powers over time, Kento and Anna go on a journey to find this legendary daemon in the hopes it can revive mother. Oh, and there is a radioactive chip inside Kento’s head which will kill him once it hatches. That’s all in episode one. The next 12 episodes contain action, suspense, and a few heart-breaking moments as Kinto and Anna make a few friends and a lot of enemies.

I really like the artwork and the animation of My Daemon. The characters’ movements make them come alive. It is one of the best animated series I have seen in a while.

The ending leaves open the possibility of a season 2. The ending is somewhat ambiguous. Do Kento and Anna meet up again? Watch the series and find out. I give a big thumbs up for My Daemon.
