about azumanga daioh

this might sound like a dumb question but i'm planning to watch this anime called azumanga daioh (idk if i typed it right, i am not a good typist) but i kinda wonder


in the community's own opinion, is watching subbed the best way to watch it? or dubbed


i sometimes watch stuff subbed and dubbed sometimes but i wanted to know which is the best way, again sorry if this question sounds silly.

I will probably never watch this. But I usually watch English subs if the dub isn't airing/streaming in the states.

I don't know anything about that particular anime, but as a rule with dub or sub? Movies I prefer to watch the original dub with subs. TV series I usually watch the English dub. If it is really a complicated series, such as Boogeypop Phantom, which requires multiple viewings, I watch both.

Hello friend, yes please do watch Azumanga Daioh!, it is a lovely series. As for your question, personally I have gotten so used to watching subbed anime that today I could not watch English dubs without a lot of hesitation. However, I did begin watching anime dubbed so I guess there is nothing wrong with it per se, and so it might be a matter of personal preference.

Due to the nature of the anime, you won't be losing a lot if you watch the EN dub.

However, it's an anime from 2002. English dubbing back then was.... well, let's say it's not as good as it is nowadays.

In this case I recommend simply watching the JP version with subtitles. The OG voices are very cute you see.

My usual practice is to watch the English dub for series. But for movies, which I tend to take more seriously, I go with the original Japanese with subtitles. I like to hear the original actor's interpretation.

I am reminded of the English dub for Kiki's Delivery Service. It was released in the US right after Disney purchased the US distribution rights from Studio Ghibli. The Disney dub changed the ending. After that, Ghibli demanded a new agreement which included prohibiting Disney from changing the story for any future Ghibli film.
