What image enters your mind when I mention Romantic Killer? Maybe a suave, debonair ladies’ man who leaves behind a trail of mutilated corpses of women attracted to this fiend? Well, guess again. Romantic Killer is a coming of age comedy.

High schooler Anzu is not interested in boys. Her priorities are chocolate, video games, and her cat. But a wizard named Riri takes these all away from her, promising to return them only when she takes up a romance. Anzu is determine not to let Riri win this game. But Riri is a wizard with powers, and he manages to set up three possible romantic partners for Anzu. They are heartthrob Tsukasa, the athletic Junta, and the rich, but spoiled Hijiri. Riri even manages to fix things so that Anzu’s parents have to leave the country for a while, while Tsukasa and Junta move in. Chaos ensues.

There is a dark turn in the last two episodes, which I appreciated. The characters are well defined. The animation is a bit above average. And the story itself is interesting, though several episodes, despite the quick deliveries of the voice actors, drag a bit. Season 2 is forthcoming.

There are better anime series out there, but Romantic Killer is not so bad. Until you find one better, you should check this one out. Romantic Killer is now on Netflix Streaming.
