Once again we have an example of how Japanese anime has influenced the world. Trese is based on a Filipino comic and produced by BASE Entertainment of Indonesia, with some American participation as well. Does Trese hold up to its Japanese influence? I would say it does.

Alexandra Trese inherits the position of Lakan from her father. Her duties are to uphold the balance of the agreement negotiated by her father between the human and supernatural worlds. And in her spare time, she and her team help the local police in cases involving ghosts, demons, wizards, gods, and such using magic. It gets pretty bloody, with a bit of profanity here and there. Only six episodes for one season exist so far, but we do get a hint there may be more to follow.

The fight sequences show quite a bit of effort, though other scenes have some obvious shortcuts in the animation. The art is well done, and the English dub, which is the original dub, has some excellent voice acting in it.

Trese is worth a watch for action fans.
