An injured warrior wearing a mask he cannot remove, wakes up in a village of furries not knowing who he is, where he is, or what he is. That’s the setup for Utawarerumono. Eventually, he becomes the leader of the village and spearheads a rebellion against the evil emperor. That brings us through episode 7, and that was all I could take.

Now to be fair, many of the battle scenes are exciting, yet many seem to have been animated by just going through the motions. Other scenes have animation and artwork which is flat. As for the characterizations? Nothing of interest here. Everyone has a one dimensional personality.

This anime series had such promise. But promises are made to be broken, aren’t they? I could take or leave Utawarerumono, and I choose to leave it
