Three things you need to know about Eureka Seven – Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers. The first is this is not a rehash of the series. The second is it is not a sequel. Third, this is not a prequel either. It is a totally different story unrelated to the series, which includes the same characters only fulfilling different roles and in some cases with different personalities.
Renton and Eureka are young children growing up together, when Eureka is kidnapped by soldiers. Eight years later, Renton is a young corporal in the military assigned to the Gekko, commanded by Holland Novak – or so it seems. Actually, nothing is as it seems. Even Eureka is not who she appears to be. Renton participates in a mission to retrieve a secret military item, which turns out to be Eureka. After that, things really get complicated, so pay attention. There is also an invasion by the Azo, who are out to destroy humanity, and the deployment by the military of a doomsday weapon known as the Hammer of God.
There is action and several battle scenes, where the fate of both our heroes and humanity remain in doubt. Yet through it all, Good Night is a love story where Renton and Eureka are willing to go to any extreme, make any sacrifice, and take any chance to save the other.
The movie is just under two hours, and keep watching through the credits for the one final shot. There is quite a bit of material crammed in there for the viewer to absorb. If you liked the series Eureka Seven, you should like the movie Eureka Seven – Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers. You even find out why the title includes “Seven.”
