First check this out:
And now, in reverse order, my Top 10 Anime Siblings.
10. The Kawamoto Sisters from March Comes in Like a Lion. Orphaned, Akari, the oldest, looks after her two younger sisters, middle-school student Hinata and pre-schooler Momo. Together, they adopt the main character Rei as their brother. Though just a teen, Rei is a professional shogi player – and pretty miserable much of the time. The sisters give him a sense of normality.
9. Hansel and Gretel from Black Lagoon. These two twins are so cute, cuddly, adorable, and homicidal. Not to mention cross-dressers. They are only in two episodes, but they had a big impact on Black Lagoon fans.
8. Moho and Ray from Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. These two Japanese-Americans, who have returned to their homeland, both influence and effect the life of the main character Koyuki. Ray introduces the aimless Koyuki to music, while the tough, foul-mouth Moho becomes Koyuki’s first crush. Moho’s relationship with Koyuki is somewhat of an enigma. She tells him he is great, but not that she loves him; although she is hurt when she thinks Koyuki is with another girl. Her relationship with Ray is even more of an enigma. Ray obviously cares about his younger sister, warning Koyuki that as tough as she is outside, she is fragile inside. Moho seems to be somewhat close to Ray, but really is not concerned when he goes missing. These odd relationships are one of the most interesting aspects of the series.
7. Nina and Johan from Monster. These two twins share a dark and cruel childhood. But eventually they go their separate ways. Nina goes to college to begin building a life for herself. Johan travels throughout Europe killing people, or getting others to kill people. When Kenzo Tinma, a Japanese doctor working in Germany, is accused of Johan’s crimes, Nina assists him in clearing his name. But even with a distance of hundreds of miles, the negative ties between Johan and Nina cannot be broken.
6. Hikaru and Kaoru from Ouran High School Host Club. Another set of twins! They look alike, talk alike, and no one can tell them apart – except for our heroine Haruhi. Their role in the host club is to play two brothers madly and passionately in love – with each other. Awkward. Outside of the act, the boys are still close, even towards the end of the series when they start developing their own separate identities.
5. Liz and Patty from Soul Eater. Liz and Patty are weapons; pistols actually. They have the ability to transform. The girls are from the street, and used to get by mugging people at gunpoint; which kind of does not fit their personalities. Liz is kind of timid in the face of danger, and Patty is. . . . Well, Patty is sort of an idiot. It’s Kid Death who takes them out of the streets, and gives them a new useful life at the Death Weapon Meister Academy, and for this, out of gratitude, they remain loyal to Kid. So there are some inconsistencies in their backstory. So what? They are still an entertaining pair to watch.
4. Lelouch and Nunnally from Code Geass. The exiled children of Emperor Charles are living at a Japanese school, where Lelouch takes the name of Zero to lead a rebellion. While not on the job, he is simply another student and the devoted brother to his blind and paraplegic younger sister Nunnally. Can the close sibling relationship survive the rebellion?
3. Sora and Shiro from No Game, No Life. Sora and his little sister Shiro are master gamers who are put to the test when taken to another dimension. Sora is a master strategist, and whatever weaknesses he may have, Shiro can make up for. The two are very close. Maybe too close. They really should have separate rooms.
2. Kun and Mirai from Mirai. This is the only movie on my list. I really don’t know why it is called Mirai when this is Kun’s story. Four-year-old Kun is no longer sure about his position in the family or who he is supposed to be. This is after the arrival of his newborn sister Mirai. You may wonder what kind of a relationship can develop between a small boy and a newborn. Well, that problem is overcome when Kun meets the teenage Mirai.
1. Ed and Al from Full Metal Alchemist and FMA Brotherhood. It is not just that these two brothers are close, it is that they would die for each other, and would die to help others. Each one holds himself and the other to high standards. FMA remains one of the most popular anime series of all time, and Ed and Al are two of the most popular characters.
Honorable Mention:
Yuki and Ren from Blue Exorcist
Kaname and Yuki from Vampire Knight
Kyouka and Kelichi from B-Gata H-Kei, Yamada’s First Time
Now it is your turn.
