Gaming is an ever-changing and ever-adapting world. Some games are a flash-in-the-pan and fizzle out before really reaching their full potential and others live in the hearts of gamers as classics. Yet there has never been a more successful video game to keep its players engaged like Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft.
World of Warcraft never played like the standard fantasy game where you need to be heavily invested in fantasy to get what's going on. World of Warcraft makes the game simple enough that a kid could grasp the concept and challenging enough to engage mature players, whereas other games just simply toss the player in and hope for the best.
When I started playing World of Warcraft (I think back in 2005?), it consumed me. I would spend up to six hours in an instance (when I played with randoms in a difficult instance). Playing in a big raiding guild towards the end of the classic WoW era was incredible. 40 people, all capable, focused, and rehearsed was an absolutely awesome thing to behold. I’d built some cool online friendships. That is what made WoW great.
So from one standpoint, WoW is a great game in that it is incredibly addictive. It had me in a way I didn’t even realize. It kept me coming back. That’s why some people call it WoWCrack.
