Seriously name any main character in anime who is not mentally ill
Anime is a lot like sex. Done right it's a beautiful act of creation that brings a little more light into the world. If it's sick and wrong... it's even better.

I thought of reviving some of the old threads. I have more names to add to many of them.
For a mentally ill character, I would add Komi from Komi Can't Communicate. Komi is the prettiest girl in school, but she suffers from social anxiety to the point where she finds it impossible to speak to others.
Jackie Coogan, Charlie Chaplin, and Charles Reisner as the Bully.
Reisner was a former pro boxer who turned actor, writer, and director. He previously worked for Chaplin behind the camera on The Gold Rush. Reisner would later become known as a comedy director working with The Marx Brothers, Jack Benny, and Abbot and Costello, among others.
Most of Bakemonogatari cast
Higurashi
And so many more...

^ I don't know that one. Tell us about it -- in your own words.

That's a good one. basically this kid saves a vampire's life at the expense of his own and then is turned into one. But he realizes she is a monster and fights her, until this weird guy strikes a deal where he makes them connected (she now lives in his shadow as a child instead of a sexy blond bombshell undead) and he's sort of half vampire. As the series goes on he meets other girls with supernatural afflictions and helps them too, falling in love with a crazy chick who keeps threatening to cut his eyes from his head. Actually most of them try to kill him at some point.

^ We've all been there at one time or another. Still, it sounds -- weird. Is it dark enough?

Ewen Amano was borderline mentally ill during the first part of Digimon Fusion. Until he realized he was being controlled by a Bagra Army General.
My Wi-Fi, it's gone out . . .
Doesn't mind control count as a type of insanity?

^ The mind controller? Not necessarily.
The one being controlled? He/she could be driven insane.
Note that insanity is not a medical term. It is a legal term for those who do not have the mental capacity to control or understand their actions.

^ I am not so sure that the term insane can apply to Euphemia here. Yes, she has not control over her actions, but that is because of Lelouch's carelessness with this Geass power. Or maybe you can say that Lelouch removed Euphemia's sanity?

^ Right. That entire family was so f-cked up. Nunnally may have been the only sane one.

Inbreeding isn't sucha big del in anime. Plus poor parenting. 90% of them just drop the kid off with a random elderly person who imposes no rules about ancient evil magic. Schools aren't much better

^ Bad parenting is so common in anime. Start with those who run off for whatever reason leaving the kids to raise themselves!

To be fair parents who stick around tend to die horribly. Or in the case of Yugi's mom, disappear into a shadow world while paying bridge with Tea and Joey and Tristan's parent and accidentally drawing one of their kid's duel monsters cars.
But no, leaving them in the care of a creepy old man who teaches them the secrets of black magic is generally a bad idea.
They usually send them to boarding schools if they're good. Which explains why some have completely different accents than the rest of their friends and family.
Now here are some crazies.. the entire cast of Durarara!

^ Crazy? Sure they are. That picture though is just the characters from Durarara!! DurararaX2 has characters who are even more messed up.

That's in season 2. They appear in the last episode of season 1 first.
Still, there are so many crazies in anime... and often they do it to themselves. Honestly the kids in My Hero Academia...
