J.R. Richard died this past Wednesday at the age of 71. Richard, who spent his entire career with the Houston Astros, was one of the most intimidating pitchers of the 1970's. His lifetime records was 107 wins against 71 loses, with an ERA of 3.15. He averaged 8.4 strike outs per nine innings over his career.

He was on his way to his best season ever in 1980, with a 10-4 record and an ERA of 1.90, when he collapse on the field prior to a game. Taken to a hospital, he was diagnosed as having a stroke, and Richard never played again.

Bill Freehan, who spent his entire baseball career with the Detroit Tigers during the 1960's and most of the '70's, died at the age of 79. He had Altzheimers.

During his career, primarily as a catcher, he hit .262, with 200 home runs and 758 RBI's.
