Cool Sword Gai, Season 2 (2018)

When we last left Gai, he was a Chrysalis trying to keep from becoming a Busoma. The Busoma are the bad guys, trying to destroy mankind. As season two of Sword Gai gets started, things are not going any better. So Gai commits suicide as Sayaka, the girl who loves him, watches.

Yeah, right. The main character kills himself in episode one. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say we’ve haven't seen the last of Gai. This only gives the series a few episodes to set up the various sub-plots.

Sayaka in her mourning is befriended by Shin, a boy from her school. Oh, and Shin’s little sister is the subject of some rather bizarre experiments related to the Busoma. No more about that. Watch the series. Gai is befriended by a priestess named Himiko, who’s life mission is to destroy all Busoma. And so the stage is set and events put in place building up to one final battle with Gai, Shin, and Busoma of various shapes and sizes.

Season two is actually better than season one. The lose threads are all put in their proper place, and the story flows evenly. There is good action, and some very tense moments. My only complaint is that with twelve episodes, and a complex web of sub-plots, they had to rush the ending. I can find no word on a third season, so this appears to be it.

If you like action, and you don't mind it getting a little dark, Sword Gai is a series you will enjoy. Of course, it does get bloody. Running swords and other weapons through a body will do that. So this is not for little kids. Both seasons can be seen on Netflix streaming.
