Retsuko is an adorable little bear. Or maybe a dog. Or a cat? I’m really not sure. But Aggretsuko may initially have the look of a kiddie show, this is really an adult satire. There are ten episodes, each a bit more than 15 minutes. So it’s an easy watch to fit in.

Retsuko is in her mid-20’s working in accounting for a sexist boss, with a mixture of friends, some close and some annoying. Anyway, she hates her life and dreams of quitting her hell of a job. Maybe a friend can offer her an opportunity? Or maybe she can get married and quit. Or maybe she can discover herself.

The artwork is not exactly mind blowing, but if it was it would destroy the spirit of the series. As I said, this is a satire – a satire of the life of a working stiff. Certainly anyone who has ever been trapped in a job they hate can identify with Retsuko, and understand why she turns to death metal to release her frustrations.

Expect some profanity, so despite the talking animal characters this is not for kids. It would be OK for teens, assuming you want to scare the crap out of them by showing what they have to look forward to as adults.

Aggretsuko is available on Netflix Streaming, and is worth checking out.
