One planet. Two worlds, at least. Opposite gravity. I guess this could be all the ingredients for a madcap comedy. Instead it is a youthful adventure titled Patema Inverted.

Looking it up after watching, it seems this is the second of two anime films about Patema and her adventures. Not seeing film one does not make watching this one any less enjoyable. Patema Inverted is mostly easy to follow.

So Patema, daughter of the late chief, lives in an underground world. One day her explorations cause her to fall into the surface world, where the gravity is the exact opposite of the underground world. She meets Age (pronounced A-gee), a young boy, and. . . . Well, you know what happens in anime when a young boy meets a young girl. The girl gets captured. The boy tries to save her. It looks like he won’t, then he does, then he doesn’t. The plot formulation is nothing original, but it is still a good story which is highly entertaining.

Some of the artwork is quite impressive. The animation style is not any better than most anime films, but don’t let that stop you. This is hardly mind candy, but there are still plenty of reasons to cheer Patema and Age on to a happy ending.

No profanity, at least in the English sub-titles. I don't know about the English dub. Only one scene with blood. Death of the villain. Patema Inverted is suitable for kids approaching their early teens.
