Most anime stories seem to fall apart when made into live action. I did like the Japanese live action version of Death Note, but almost all others seem to disappoint. I think this is partly due to anime stories losing the element of fantasy when they become live action. They turn into Power Rangers or some other kid stuff. Then there are the mecha anime which when made into live action look like a two hour toy commercial.
I think for an anime to be transposed into live action and still work, it would have to be grounded in reality. For example, I think Your Lie in April would make a good live action series. As a movie, too much would have to be cut. But as a series, take some good, young actors and cast them into the roles, and I think you would have something. Even the fantasy scene at the end with the last duet by Kaori and Kousei would work with live actors since it would practically be the only such scene in a reality based story.
What anime do you think would work as a live action series or movie? Don't name one which already has been done.
