I am talking here about anime series or movies where music plays an important part, either in the story itself or in setting the mood.

My choices:

Your Lie in April. A heart-breaker about a protege pianist who is inspired by a young violinist to resume his musical interests. Keep your hankies ready.

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. A young teen with no direction in his life finds a purpose in joining a rock band. He has to put up with bullies, a free-spirited love interest who runs hot and cold, setbacks and successes, and lost of other stuff.

FLCL. Music has nothing at all to do with the plot here. But the soundtrack by The Pillows is a major appeal of this series. It may be the best sound track for any anime series I have ever seen. The music sets every mood perfectly.

With the kids sing out the future
Maybe kids don't need the masters
Just waiting for the Little Busters, oh yeah
