Recommendations of american - made animes?

Hard to say tho, but anime definitely is not a style. We just associate it with japanese animation that's all and american animation can be influenced by japanese animation, no doubt about that. Anime is just the japanese term for animation in general. In Japan even cartoons or Disney movies are considered anime so yeah.

True the word anime means animation in Japanese. But the word has also come to mean the distinctive style of Japanese animation. If you say "anime," a specific image comes to mind, just like an entirely different image comes if you say "Disney" or "claymation" or "South Park."

If there is anyone from Japan reading this, do you consider Disney anime? And if not, what do you call it?

I honestly don't even understand some people's obsession with calling non-jp animation anime. Like what's even the point of it? Does giving a western cartoon the anime moniker somehow cement it as good or better or more mature or at least different from other cartoons? Why does Avatar have to be called anime? Does that change its quality? No.
It's almost as if people are embarrased to say they're watching a cartoon when Avatar's on TV so they try to make it seem cooler by calling it anime instead.
That's just me spitballing but what else could be the reason?
It's probably autism that drives this crusade but damn.

And why don't we ever get hordes of nerds throwing a fit saying that e.g. PSG should be called a cartoon too because the visuals look western? Why does that inversion interest nobody? It really gets my noggin' joggin' honestly.

I've asked a Japanese friend and everything animated is considered as anime. While they do use the word cartoon for western animation too, the term anime is more popular.

Nope, basically everything is referred to as anime. Really everything without exception. The term 'cartoon' does exist, but they prefer to use 'anime'.

Because an American-made anything won't be called by a Japanese name. Anime is the Japanese short term for animation.

And we know that an American-made animation is called a cartoon.
