Marlene Hoffman, aka 009-1, is a cyber-enhanced super spy, who will go anywhere, kill anyone, and sleep with anyone, male or female, to accomplish her mission. Caution: She has machine guns in her breasts.

009-1 is a 12 episode anime from 2006, though the art and animation styles look more like from the 1990’s or even earlier. Except for the last two episodes, all are independent stories. Although halfway through, Marlene does start going through some emotional trials, which causes her superiors to question her worthiness.

The series can be fun at times. Unfortunately the story-lines are not well thought out. This is a cliché ridden series in which not too much effort was made to develop anything but the simplest of plots. It is not bad, but could have been way better.

Not bad, but I can’t really recommend you go out of your way to watch 009-1. If you stumble upon it, that’s one thing. But this is not an anime for your must see list. And, with the nudity and profanity, certainly not one for the kids.
