[News] Crazy Christmas Weather

Recently over the past week, the Southeastern United States has been hit hard with tornadoes, lots of rain, and flooding. So far I've been told about 18 people have died across Mississippi and Alabama, and several have lost homes.

I know elsewhere in the U.S. the weather hasn't gotten as deadly, but still strange and could've been deadly. Apparently in the Southern California there's wildfires going on as well. And there's also the warm temperatures across the Eastern side of the U.S.

Basically it's falls storms hitting late as we really haven't had a cold front blow through mixing the air this year.

Strange how California's central valley is getting all these tornadoes out of the blue. There was one last month, and two just on Christmas Eve. Electricity went out over at my place from one of the power lines getting ripped out. Cray.

Stop sending us stupid weather and just give us rain, dammit.

We've been having pretty bad flooding where I'm from. Luckily I live in an area that's so far been unaffected, but it's been pretty bad.

Like last week it was super hot, and this week it's been nothing but storms and intense humidity.

According the the police scanner on my phone, there were some really bad tornadoes throughout Texas today near Garland.

My extended family in central Alabama are saying everything is pretty much flooded and shutdown. It's rained quite a bit here (South Alabama), but nothing out of the ordinary or extreme. Though these 70° temps with 90%+ humidity are killing me.

Yeah my sister took pictures and experienced multiple alarms alerting to tornadoes (she lives in Dallas). Luckily she's fine but it was crazy today.

Well here in Canada it's been an unusually mild and pleasant winter. Deep down inside I know it's due to global warming but I've been enjoying it anyway.

Seems there's been a lot of "crazy Christmas weather" in countries around the Atlantic Ocean lately. Not that I'm trying to compare weather impacts between countries here; but over the past few months we've had to contend with six westerly storms in the UK: Abigail, Barney, Clodagh, Desmond, Eva and most recently, Frank. Fortunately none of them caused any tornadoes (Britain doesn't really have the conditions for tornadoes) and to my knowledge, none have claimed any lives. But they have bought record and widespread amounts of rainfall to northern parts of the UK, and many people have lost their homes and livelihoods to burst river banks and inadequate flood defences. Also, EU legislation has made it illegal for authorities and communities in the UK to dredge their own local rivers (a traditional practice, that if still allowed would have minimised (if not prevented) the flooding), which blatantly adds insult to injury.

To me, for most of December, California was pretty wet. I didn't know we had a noticeable amount of wildfires. I know I haven't seen that much rain since 2005 when a favorite campground of mine was permanently destroyed. Although I am glad to see a colder, wetter winter this time since last years fizzled out after December and stayed mostly warm and dry for the rest of the season. I'm still a lover of rainy weather despite the destruction.
