Hello there, everyone!
My name's Joe, AKA Manwards. I've been into anime (and Japanese/nerd culture in general) for well over a decade, and I've posted on a lot of forums over the years, but I never tend to stick around for more than a year or so. Still, I felt the urge to talk anime with some like-minded people, so here I am, on a brand new forum. Hopefully I can make a few friends here, and perhaps I'll even stick around! Only time will tell...
So, I'm English, I'm incredibly old and I'm incredibly working class. Anime-wise, I love almost everything Kyoto Animation have ever done (Haruhi Suzumiya, K-ON!, Clannad, Free!, Hyouka, and I'm currently enjoying Hibike! Euphonium... basically, everything except Kyoukai no Kanata). I also adore Neon Genesis Evangelion and its film remakes, Mirai Nikki, Perfect Blue, Genshiken, classic Sailor Moon (not that abomination, Crystal) and about a hundred more.
Outside of anime, I'm into gaming (mainly Persona/Shin Megami Tensei, Metal Gear Solid, classic Sonic the Hedgehog, and anything with an immersive story), going to the gym, meeting up with friends in the pub, Game of Thrones, all that jazz. Also, I was a nude model for a brief period, before I turned 30 and found it too difficult to keep my weight down, but hey, I have enough semi-flattering photos of myself to have made it worthwhile!
A photo of me (thankfully fully-clothed), from one of my aforementioned photoshoots last year:
I have several tattoos, one of which is of a manga-style girl, and I have a six-hour session coming up in a couple of weeks that will add a rabbit, a deer and some dandelions to my arm. The imagery is from a 1960s short story called The Dandelion Girl; some of you may recognise it as being quoted by Kotomi-chan in Clannad.
There's a lot more I could say, but it's super late here and I doubt anyone is interested anyway! Still, say hello if you feel like it, and I'll do my best to get involved with the forums here. It's been too long since I had a really good conversation about this stuff!
Thanks all, and take care,
Manny
