So, new season of Tokyo Ghoul. What's everyone think so far?

inb4 nothing but posts hating on the new OP

I'm personally curious to see how it ends up. As a manga reader, it's strange seeing half of the storyline adapted while the other half isn't. I won't say much more than that, except I was super effin thrown off and irritated at the end of the first episode. If they pull off a generic ending where Kaneki (predictably) backstabs Aogiri Tree I'll be super disappointed.

Also, needs more Tsukiyama.

I think the anime has to revert back to the manga at some point. The ending has to be the same if they're gonna animate :re as well (which I hope).

This is just a guess, but I have a gut feeling Kaneki will end up betraying Aogiri Tree. Though, this season is better than season 1 IMO.

If he does betray Aogiri (which, come on, is already pretty obvious is gonna happen imo), then it better be followed with a no-holds-barred wicked battle. All that censorship and cutting off fights aggravates me to no end. Even the uncensored version cuts out a lot of the gorier scenes from the manga.

I've only seen two episodes so far, so I can't fairly say which season I like better.

Well, it is a "Tragedy". So Kaneki dying wouldn't be too surprising. Tbh though, I think he'll somehow make a miraculous recovery somehow. Just like he did VS Rize in the first season.

I knew there were fangirls, but, Sebastian-tier? Neither one of them are all that great imo, but to each her own I guess. Lol, like how Sebastian "died" at the beginning of Book of Murder. The fandom's reactions were hilarious.

Kaneki though, he's basically a mutated, mentally broken science project. Sexy.

At least Tsukiyama has sass and a kickass sense of fashion.

Touka's pretty awesome though, I hope they give her and her Rabbit alias some decent screentime. I could live without Ayato for a while. Oh and more Hide. So long as they keep his association with the CCG solid, I'll be happy.

I don't like Ayato due to how he treated Touka back in S1, but he might get a redemption storyline eventually and save her.

Reading the manga chapter where Kaneki beat Ayato to a bloody goddamn pulp was so satisfying. That's one of the things I'm pissed that the anime decided to skip over.

But yeah I think Ayato will have a change of heart at some point. Kaneki even pointed out that he indirectly saved Touka at one point, so there's already a good basis that he's not quite as bad as he seems.

I agree with you, this season is different because you can actually tell sui Ishida has his hands in this anime with all the symbolism

This new Tokyo Ghoul Root A is actually being directed by the Mangaka so if it feels more to the manga that is why.

Season 1. Right off the bat I enjoyed it and then I read the manga. I probably would of liked it more had I not read the manga.

Season seemed to show more light on Jason's Character as a main person. Granted I give him the reason Kaneki fell into depravity and became the Centipede, but I don't think that he was that main of a character to show so much light on. Also They entered Tsukiyama WAY to early also. The part were Yomo trained Kaneki did not have Touka in it, but in the manga Kaneki always trained with Touka when training with Yomo. I love the series and there are so many questions I have and want answered. I am glad Tokyo Ghoul:re is starting to open those questions that were not answered at the end of the manga.

I'm not sure how much they are now, but S2 doesn't follow the manga or at least is an alternate version.

Well like I said the mangaka is actually over seeing this project so that it seems to be a little more close to what he wanted. I am sure there are different variances, but that is because of the way they already skewed the series.

I'm confused, you're saying that Ishida Sui wasn't happy with how he wrote the manga, so he's making a new story with the anime that he thinks is better?

Haven't seen the second season but aren't they just jumbling the order of events in the anime? While remaining fairly close to manga?
Like how they did with season 1

No he was not happy with how the first season portrayed the Manga so he is writing most of the script for the Second Season.

But, he himself is derailing the storyline this season then. Kaneki doesn't even join Aogiri in the manga. I'm still so lost.

@Mystelinth The anime was (for the most part) faithful to the manga, story wise. A few scenes were cut or shortened but that was pretty much it if I recall correctly.

I read somewhere that the season is named Root A which means it's gonna take a different route (root) concerning Aogiri (A) so I think Ishida not liking the first season maybe a reason for the change, but also that she had another way for the manga in mind and is trying it out?

Hoh! That's actually pretty clever. I was wondering about the root/route correlation for a while at one point but I couldn't figure out the A part because I fail. That makes sense though! But, I do still hope the original storyline gets its own adaption later on.
