your most traumatic experience

what event in your life was most traumatic? and by trauma i mean your mental coordination is thrown into disarray and your emotions become erratic and unpredictable. and if you've never experienced trauma, explain the worst or most regrettable moment in your life.

i think everyone on this forum knows mine already. i've had testicular cancer and have tried to kill myself twice and i'd say that breakup was roughly a thousand times worse than any of that.

Falling out of a large tree, breaking my arm, touching me left hand to my left elbow (literally), while seeing my pretty, white bones along with mangled tendons and meat covered in dirt when i was 5 years old was a pretty good one. Its pretty much the only memory I have from before i was about 9. And i do remember it quite clearly.

Not as traumatic as meeting @horrendous on AF when I was 22 though.

A girl having a seizure in front of me when I worked with security for a rave at an anime convention because she tried to do all of her drugs in line before the bag check.. Got to the bag check and turned blue.

And of course when my grandpa passed.. That was traumatizing and I still live with it.

The time I saw a UFO and didn't have a freaking camera. Do you know how hard it is to explain your interest in the paranormal to people who don't believe you have a valid reason for it?!? Even thought other people reported it back in Bishp California in 1989 nobody got a picture and it was years before I found out about the other reports because hey, no Internet.

Oh, come on... It probably was no ufo... There are other, logical explanations for what you saw. Why the heck is everybody thinking aliens having ufo's anyways? Heck, maybe they don't even know how to build a rocket. Maybe they are primitive, or underdeveloped lifeforms, instead of superior beings.

Waking up in the middle of one night when I was 13, tossing and turning. I suddenly started twitching real bad, but I didn't think anything of it, and just kept trying to get comfortable. The twitching got worse, I almost got flung off of my bed. Then I stretched out my arm in frustration and it suddenly went cold and numb, and I couldn't move it. It felt like it was being crushed in place. I yelled out for my mom who was in the next room, but in the middle of my scream my mouth also froze in an "O" position, and my voice changed into a strained, choking sound.

I blacked out, and woke up being carried out of my door on an ambulance gurney. My vision was blurry, I was disoriented, and I couldn't speak except for raspy whispers. Even though I was strapped in the gurney it felt like I was weightless. I got pulled into the back of the ambulance and strapped to a heart monitor and an oxygen mask. I blacked out again and woke up in a hospital room, hooked up to like 4 different machines and strapped down into my bed so that I could barely move. No one was in the room, so I kept trying to yell but my voice was still cracked and small. The nurse didn't show up until (what felt like) at least an hour later, and finally told me what had happened.

And that's how I learned I was epileptic.

Nothijg really tramatic, but I fully regret no taking off work one day when I worked at Domino's. My at the time Fiancèe had gone to New Orleans with a friend for Mardi Gras. They got back a few days later, and she wanted me to take off to come pick her up because friends had to go get someone out of jail, and my now ex-fiancèe really wanted to spend the day with just me, go find somewhere quiet and away to relax and smoke some stuff and then let out all the drunken urges for sexytime that she had to supress while she was gone. (Note: We had an understanding about sex. I didn't mind if she did things with someone else so long as she was safe and open about it.) Anyway, I told her I couldn't take off work. I was so goddamn stupid, I should have just said screw it and spent time with her. Anyway, I told her to wait at a friends house and that I'd pick her up after work, she agreed. After work, I get there and she wants to stay the night to get rid of a hangover before having to go back home. We lived with my dad in the middle of nowhere, so I could understand why. But for some reason, that night, I freaked out. I begged her to come with me, became so angry I cried. I don't know why, but I tried to make her go home with me. I made her hit me. I didn't notice how I was making her feel or that she was crying because of it. I injured myself, hoping she would come home to make sure I was okay. After over an hour, my mind suddenly cleared and I coukd think properly. I realized what I was doing to her, how bad I was making her feel. So I let her stay the night and apologized a thousand times over. The next day, I knew something was off when I got her. I asked her some question, saw the cute little smile she has when she tries to lie to me. She cheated, but I was fine with it. I began to explain why I had snapped, and apologize, and promise to make it up to her. A few days later, she went off alone to think and do something spiritual. When she came back, she broke up with me and moved in with the douche that she cheated with. I drove her into his arms. I lost the only thing I've ever wanted. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her or miss her. I can barely sleep because I had become so used to her laying beaide me. The loneliness haunts me, and I can't help but think of how bad she must have felt that night to be driven to leaving me. We went through so much together, from helping her with her anorexia to holding her the night she realized that she wasn't just molested when she was younger, she had also been raped and I was the only person she ever even considered mentioning it to. The countless nights I stayed up talking with her, all the times we fooled around in school with everyone around oblivious, the times I took care of her while she was sick...all of it throqn away simply because I didn't take one day off of work to be with her.



I onow people have had it far worse than I. But this is by far the most painful thing I've ever knoan.

reading through this thread, i am beginning to realize just how lightly i got off with a break up. it changed me forever, as i am now consistently on the verge of breaking down and sobbing if the wrong song plays, or if someone starts talking about how awesome their significant other is (a week ago, months after it happened, i woke up at 3am and sobbed for twenty minutes, after thinking i was over her).

but honestly, i feel like i got off light and my bipolar is causing things to be thrown out of proportion. we were only together for like 3 months, and while i lost my virginity to her, it wasn't really a big deal at the time and still isn't. i think some of my mental sicknesses are making things worse for me than they ought to be, because a lot of people posting in this thread seem to have had it much worse than me. i thought i was alone in my suffering, but clearly everyone has their own story to tell about something seriously fked up that happened in their lives, and how they are still living with the pain.

i know it shouldn't, but it comforts me to know that i am not alone.

When I was about 7 I was at a wave pool (Typhoon Lagoon in Disney World to be exact) with my family and I went a bit far up and when the wave came, some fat guy about 6ft tall looked like 300 pounds fell on top of me and I was under the water for like 3 minutes and I thought I was going to die.Since I was like 7 i freaked out, all I remember was my mom pulling me out from under the guy.

Other than that it'd be when my mom passed away from cancer last summer.

Bullied in middle and highschool (5 years in all). That created a sever depression and made me wanted to kill myself every single minute of those 5 years. I recovered from that state when I left that school and entered another. But my body never forgot that depression and created an autoimmune illness which is destroying my life little by little now, pfft, and there is neither a cause nor a cure for that.

i wasn't brave, i was dead inside. i had resigned myself to death, and would have gone peacefully. every day was just waiting to see which way it would go.

my family had a much tougher time with me having cancer than i did. they all told each other "don't talk about it around him", when in reality i would have loved to tell them how i was feeling about it. i think they felt more like victims than i did.

yeah i still have a lot of strong emotions surrounding that topic, but at the time it was nothing to me.

Ah, that reminds me of being caught in a rip tide when I was little. I was "figjting" with the waves at a beach and wandered out too far. I can't swim, but I could touch bottom. The saltwater in my eyes kept me from seeing, and everytime I'd turn and walk towards the shore, I'd somehow end up getting turned around and walk further out. I screamed and waved my arms, the dumbasses who took me there didn't notice and just waved back. Eventually, two girls saved me with a wake board.


I guess I did have a tramatic even happen, I had completely forgotten.

Ohh, traumatic water experiences. I have a lot of those. 4 maybe? I know my brother saved me from at least 3 that I can remember.

...Not sure if exactly traumatizing though, because I still love swimming. :B I'm like Haruka from Free!, get me near any sort of water and I'm in it before anyone else lol.
