Religious extremists. Opinions on them?

A few months ago this really disturbed lady told me she could read my aura and said that if you don't go to church, you basically gave up on life and god is watching you. Now, I don't want to turn this thread into a religion debate. I accept every religion, usually. Though, extremists IMO are probably one of the most annoying types of people on the planet. They try to force their religion on you and act really creepy even if the mood is getting awkward. Well, at least from my experience.

when i think "religious extremism", i think Al Quada. i think violence and persecution. i don't consider an old lady that tells you you're going to hell if you don't repent to be "extreme". extreme is when you kill, torture or just generally bring harm to people because you think it will please your god. i think that type of extremist is the epitome of a hypocrite, because religion is supposed to be a source of comfort, not fear. i'll never understand how people can justify violence in the name of God, do they really think that an allmighty deity that has the power to create or destroy a universe is going to give two shts that you killed some infidels in his name? if there were a God (which there's not, but hypothetically), i doubt he would have any care of the machinations of man. i mean, he could pull the plug on humanity and start fresh at any moment (which he tried to do with the great flood). he's literally tried to end existence on earth, so it's safe to assume he just doesn't give a fck.

man i'm rambling. i like discussing theology though.

I've had a group of Jehovah Witnesses jump our locked security fence to preach to us about their religion before, then getting declined and asking to unlock the fence for them to be let out.

I've also had a guy ask me to go to his house and pray to god with him and a few friends to get in gods favor, he also mentioned he had candy.... 0_0

They're ignorant. Plain and simple. I don't believe in any kind of religion or higher power, I don't try to shove it down anyone's throat either. If you want to believe in it, that's fine but never force it upon anyone else and the other extremists who actually kill innocent people over it are the worst kind of scum out there.

I don't care what religion you believe in, I respect what you worship, I don't judge you solely by your religion, I don't judge you by the act of extremists. You can even talk to me about your religion, I'm cool with that.

Extremists though, no matter which religion they're from, they're bad. That's all there to it.

Extremists are called extremists because they're sick in the brain and go too far.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here and say that all religion is just stupid and outdated. I can understand being agnostic, or believing in a higher power, but SPECIFICALLY following ANY religion to the letter based on OLD traditions and beliefs is to me just an insult to intelligent human life. I was raised in a christian family, but I'm not blind to the thousands of flaws in logic in and around the bible. The simple truth is that we can't trust on thousands of years of warped and mistranslated information of something that may have just been made up entirely. And the "b-but it was translated by men of god" argument is just silly, naive and infuriating.

My foster parents won't let me work on Sunday while I WANT to. I only pretend to believe in this crap when I'm around my family because if they knew I hated Christianity they would literally cast me out and hate me. And I'm not kidding. Muslim women may be trapped physically, but I'm just as trapped, mentally.

I'm sorry to hear. I was going to say I'm a "anime fan extremist", but maybe it isn't the time? I know it sounds arrogant of me for thinking I have any reason to butt in, but in my opinion you should set yourself free and try to find your own place. Then maybe tell them how you've been feeling this whole time.

Lucky for them I don't have a fence. If they did that here I'd have called the police on them for trespassing and anti-social behaviour.

I have no quarrels with religion in general, but i draw the line at the point where people try to push their beliefs on me and/or where individuals feel they need to "fight" for their religion. It all starts with one guy trying to tell another guy that his personal invisible man in the sky is the wrong invisible man in the sky. Said persons will then tell their friends about the hethanistic other invisible-man-in-the-sky believers. Once a whole group is trying to convince another group, general human mob mentality takes over and violence can start o emerge. In the end, the fact remains that more people have been killed in the name of "god" than for any other reason.
This is what I personally bring up to any pushers that come to my door trying to spread the "good news."

If god exists, he/she/it exists everywhere and created everything. Church is nothing special. And praying is basically the same as asking mom for candy when you are in line at the grocery store God knows what you want, has decided whether you'll get it, and bugging him won't change anything.



Meanwhile i read somewhere that when you read the Bible the devil is watching you from between the pages. Because if he exists then he knows your name, knows who you are, and when you think of him can sense it. And when that happens he has to take a look at you to determine if you are a threat and if he's going to have to do something about you.

An extreme of anything is usually bad. A lot of bad and selfish things have been done in the name of religions.
