So apparently the ALS Ice Bucket challenge things really is pointless.

Only around 27% of the funds raised are actually going towards researching a cure. That $90 Mil+ that's been raised is being used for paying employees six-figure salaries,

Somehow a part of me doesn't blame those high up in ALS Association. Since the beginning of time, money change people.

This whole post is misleading. If you look carefully these expenses were only for the year ENDING in January 31st, 2014. That means that chart is from 2013. SO there is no magical little chart showing us THIS YEARS information. Only 7% went towards the administrators. However sad it is, they should get paid. Granted while I don't agree with a 6 figure salary who am I to judge, I'm not them. Yet we still have no clue how this years numbers are going to be divided. That 27% can increase by time they make this years pie chart thing.

So the other 93% actually go pack into the cause. If you look at the chart it shows you WHERE it goes. 27% went into research, 19% went into patient and community services, 32% went into education, and 14% went into fundraising. While not all of it went into research it did go somewhere OTHER than someones salary. All sections are just as important as research. Without education, community service, or fundraising and anything else you wouldn't have any money going into research etc.

But you know.. That's just how I see it.

I love how this is just a blanket statement. Yeah it is 27% but then look at the other % that go into the pie chart. You got to fund so many different sections of a fundraiser in order for revenue to be generated. A lot is going into the marketing and thanks to the viral marketing of the Ice bucket challenge it raised so much money from previous years for ALS. But, like any fundraiser trying to find a cure, you need to fund the scientists (who wants to work for free?), program, admin, and fundraising fee's, taxes, campaign cost and so forth.

And if the scientists are making 6 figures then good for them. The american degree, masters degree, and doctorate is so expensive that the income made for the profession should match the investment made for the education.

They need the salary payed so the people will keep working there. You know in a company there is such a thing as overhead. And apparently in a research lab, the overhead is quite high.

i think you guys are forgetting that this institution is not-for-profit. that means not for profit, as in the administration doesn't make money, and the money made from fundraising is solely allocated to research and other expenses. it's not right for the CEO's and higher-ups of a not-for-profit agency to take 7% of funds that were raised for research. there's a big difference between not-for-profit and for-a-profit-of 1.9M
