Default Setting up a booth @ anime conventions

    Hello.
So I'm pretty new to the whole business about setting up a booth at anime conventions.

So... I would like to implore anyone -- just someone who has some sort of experience in this field to enlighten me on some things I'm completely at a loss for.

How much is the recommended amount of each item you should have in your inventory (e.g. badges, prints, stickers, etc).

How much should I have in my inventory for large scale conventions, as compared to smaller scale conventions?

How much merchandise should I have for the more popular animes, as compared to the less popular animes?
30-50 (badges/stickers) for the ones in greater demand?
10-20 (badges/stickers) for the ones in lesser demand?
I honestly do not even have an inkling at all >_<

Where can I find reliable & affordable sources that specializes in making badges/prints/keychains(esp. acrylic keychains)?

And last but not least, I pose this question to everyone that has taken their time to read this... what anime merchandises would you personally like to see being sold, and would buy?

Any help, however little, will be greatly appreciated! I hope I haven't caused too much trouble.
    Thank you!

I've never been a merchant at cons, so I can only answer your last question.
I like to see wall scrolls, cards, swords, pins, and drawings being sold. I would buy one of each if I had enough money left.

    1. Are you aware of copyright & intellectual property right laws with selling fan-art & anime merchandise created by you?
    If So? Proceed.
If not, go read up on how technically selling fan art IS illegal. Most people in the convention scene have the attitude of 'it's only illegal if you get caught" or "___ company doesn't really care" However you must remain full aware that if they suddenly do care, and you're who they catch; You're in trouble and no amount of law is going to save you from infringing on selling someone else's intellectual property for money/profit..

    2. Always carry the max amount you can carry. Especially when starting out. Nothing is worse than tables who sell out on the first day, or tables who have barely anything left to look at. You should surely have over 100 of each to say the least. Especially for major cons. For minor ones you can get away with 30-50.

    3. As for some sources as to where to buy acrylic and sticker merch:

I'm actually curious about the same thing. My friends have been asking me to sell some actual work at our local con. But I never understood the copy right laws. How are most sellers putting work out in artist alleys and such. Just with the idea that they hope not to get caught? Do you know if cons monitor this, and perhaps have licensing agreements or something? Wouldn't a con be just as at fault for having these sellers there?

Con's basically turn a blind eye for their own good. They usually only go after bootleg and knockoffs. They can't >really< do anything about it the art except maybe put up notices that quietly hint against it (but of course this is a major draw so it's not going to be in big bold letters). It's up to the copyright owner to protect their works not the cons. Because you never know if an artist at a booth actually DOES have the rights to an IP from a company. Just like online selling sites like Etsy can not remove infringing items until contacted by the company with a DMCA takedown notice. Acting on behalf of the company without a notice ruins their umbrella effect of assuming no liability and passing the liability onto it's users etc. Most companies also do not mess with conventions due to the fans. Fans like to think they OWN a company. You should read angry fans when they hear they've been in trouble due to copyright even though it's technically stealing from their so called "favorite show/game" it's an ignorant bloodbath. So a lot of sellers view it as a "safe zone" but that's just taking the surroundings for granted and doesn't make it any more legal.

One company made a compromise that their art can be sold in conventions but Artist Alley only. If an artist were to sell their same art in the Dealers Hall they'd be infringing on the companies fan art terms.

I'm always a sucker for any anime-related fashion accessories. Like jewellery and hair bows. I've never had a stall at a con before, but i can tell you from a lot of merchandising experience that you never want to sell out or have your stall looking empty. So I would say the more inventory and the more you have on display the better. Good Luck!!
