As you walk down a familiar footpath, you notice a very rare and valuable item fall to the ground from a person's open bag just ahead of you. Their back is turned toward you and they haven't noticed the fallen item. Would you...

a. Pick up the item and return it to the "owner"
b. Leave the item and go about your business
c. Pick up the item, but rather than keep it, report it as lost property and hand it in to the police
d. Pick up the item and keep it for yourself (The owner will not notice you if you do this)

It depends on the very rare and valuable item and the person associated with it. The owner can be a little boy and the item a limited edition 3DS XL, or the owner can be a shady adult and the item a stack of money. From the association I would determine if I:

a. Pick up the item and return it to the "owner"

or

b. Leave the item and go about your business

or

c. Pick up the item, but rather than keep it, report it as lost property and hand it in to the police

That question opens up a lot of possibilities.
