Not quite. Many a pilot has stepped into a cockpit and successfully piloted in the heat of battle. It's not the piloting that creates the anxiety, it's the daunting task that lays before the pilot, or the prolonged engagement that caused them to shut down. Area 88, Full Metal Panic, Gundam, Five Star Stories, and many other series have dealt with this.
