How about banning the Miscellaneous Miscellany forum instead? At least then I wouldn't have to tolerate self-opinionated threads like this.

On the contrary, I have lots of (self) opinions! XD It's just that, I'm not into threads where statements are written as if I should be obliged to agree with them, that's all--and someone simply telling me that "Anime Sucks", and for no reason feels like an insult to my intelligence--as if I'm somewhat less than them because I like something they don't. Had it been put as a question (as in "Do you think anime sucks?" or even, "I think anime sucks - what about you?"), I wouldn't have felt the thread was self-opinionated. My thought would be, "Anime may suck in this person's opinion, but at least they're not obliging me to agree with them".

That said, I should have considered this more as a troll thread from the start and not taken it so literally--especially when there's only one line of text to go on, no reasons to back up the statement, and a title that technically doesn't apply to AF.

Eh, that's par for the course here. If it's misc there's a decent chance it will derail or get more attention then is needed. And sometimes both. Nothing stays on topic for long here.

Obviously a troll thread so people taking this seriously should at least know that this post is meant to stir the pot. Though, I wish AF was more dedicated to the anime sections and in the very least Madoka Magica was added to the magical girl anime section as its own section.

At times, I think the same thing. Really don't see much threads being posted on in the anime section. In my opinion, about 70% of the time it's just threads from Miscellaneous section, and the rest is everything else. When threads are made in the anime sections, it's usually new people to the forums asking 'What character is this guy from' or 'What's your favorite ____?'

I've been back for only a month and a half, and I noticed it about a week after officially coming back to AF, it's that serious. Felt more nostalgia then anything else looking at all the forums that hadn't changed. Biggest transition was the site change, and I would have assumed they put more effort into rebuilding the anime forums after that transition.

I have to admit, I'm guilty of posting in the Misc Misc section more than in the Anime forums themselves. One reason is that I don't have as much time to watch anime these days, and another is that I don't necessarily keep up to date with the latest episodes of currently-airing anime. But I do think it might help if AF gave members more of an incentive to post in the Anime forums--perhaps more Gil, or prizes as they do with competitions in the Art forums? (or does AF already do that?)

I'm sure there wouldn't; I meant it as joke. Personally I love the Misc Misc section. I don't think it should go, but maybe as I said before, more incentives to post in the Anime forums would be nice...

You know, I hear all this complaining about post and thread quality on the site, but I still don't see that many members taking matters into their own hands and reviving old topics, starting new ones, and posting more about the things they want to see/talk about in the areas they want to see it in. Obviously as staff I'm obliged to promote more activity (especially in the section I moderate), but ultimately the site has to rely on it's members to be proactive (or at the very least active). At the same time we are working to make things more inclusive to folks (ie: comic book talk in the Western/Non-Japanese Animation section), it helps if everyone is more active and can pitch in. I do commend new ideas and appreciate those that come up with them (like just general discussion threads in certain forums/sub-forums/sections); but if everyone is sticking to the bandwagon of redundant/silly threads (including the ones seen as games and such) in Misc or vague general personal threads (What's your favorite ___?), how are we to get more activity elsewhere? Sure we can steer people there, but leading a horse to water doesn't make it thirsty. In the end majority still rules and the populous still drives what's going on.

No, you're not wrong by a long shot. Though I'm not sure what you mean by AF being short for Anime Forum leads to fixing up sections. Still you and the select several do a great job, and others have to take up the slack. I understand where you're coming from; but if the select several are doing all the work while complaining, what makes newcomers want to take up any slack? At the same time those aren't the only issues there are around here either.

Though to be fair, this is getting off topic so let's continue this elsewhere, say PM or VM?
