I only really joined for this one post.

I've never liked anime, in all honesty, but I figure some of it's got to be good.

Like I really liked Yu Yu Hakusho and DBZ back in the day. And oddly enough I love The Last Airbender more than almost anything. I want something without all the stereotypes, like the gigantic sweat bead and the mushroom sigh. I want something that's not so frelling full of itself but a bit lighthearted too. Not so modern. No Black Butler or Death Note, but at the same time I don't want something too cutesy like Ouran Highschool Host Club.

I want something I can just waste a week watching nonstop, like I did about a month ago with Metalocalypse.

Picky. For a picky person like you I suggest trying Rurouni Kenshin.
