Just wondering?
Depends what you mean by Otaku.
Do you mean like no life like an actual Otaku, or more along the lines of a anime fan who does other stuff but looks like an Otaku?
In another thread that I started about the anime industry one of the workers that quit his job said that one of the reasons he left was because of all the Otaku. He said that he himself thought he was an Otaku, but after working there he said that there were people literally sacrificing food just to watch and buy anime. Here in the U.S. I don’t think that is even possible with how much people torrent/stream, unless they just don’t eat at all.
I myself have often gotten into some of the shounen series and end up watching through the night without even realizing. There was one point in time where I marathoned (Not a word?) Naruto over a week period (I think it was about five maybe six days). In that time I really only left my room to eat/go to the bathroom and got about 4 hours of sleep each day. That was the only time I think I did anything like an actual Otaku.
I think I’m more of a anime fan, than anything else though. I’m not in shape, but I’m not morbidly obese either. I still go to school every day, and much as I dislike American society I get along with those I need to. I still have a circle of close friends that I interact with on a regular basis so I “have a life” in the terms of the internet. I just moved to Anchorage Alaska right before Winter during that time I didn’t go anywhere much. Not that I didn’t want to it was pretty much impossible with the amount of snow coming down along with the sub zero temps.
Now that Spring is here and I’m almost done with my traditional schooling career I’ll probably get out more. At the same time a lot of my days will still probably be spent watching anime reading manga and playing video games. I just moved here so I don’t really know anyone yet but I’ll be looking for a job soon and hopefully get out there in the world.
TL;DR
I’m not, by the definition of a true Otaku; however I do spend a large portion of time on video games/anime. I’m not in shape by any means but I function perfectly fine in the normal world. I've had probably the standard life of any normal nerd I guess.
Well, depends what you mean by otaku. If you're going by the Japanese description, then I doubt anyone is going to admit it. xD
However, if you're going by the definition that people outside of Japan define an 'otaku', then that's a bit different.
From my understanding, (Now, I could be wrong about this, so don't hold it over my head. xD) an otaku by definition of Americans, Europeans, and other people outside Japan who watch anime, refer to an otaku as basically as someone who loves anime. At least, that's what I've heard on the subject. So, in other words, if you're thinking of an otaku in Western terms, then all of us on this site would be otakus. xD
It's a trap! They're going to round us up into Ghettos and mark us with Gundam Serial numbers! Tell them nothing!

Anime is a lot like sex. Done right it's a beautiful act of creation that brings a little more light into the world. If it's sick and wrong... it's even better.

If you define an Otaku by someone who has obsessive interests in Anime and Manga, then Yes I am!
If you define it as someone who won't show up to school because they are watching anime, no.
As stated; if you mean someone who doesn't sleep for days, refuses to eat, and doesn't leave their house just to watch anime then no, I'm not an otaku. Yes, I watch it a lot and yes I've stayed up late to watch it but I wouldn't force myself to go without rest. Once I get tired I quit what I'm doing and go to sleep, even sometimes in the middle of an episode.

I am one by definition, but I don't go around calling myself one.

I use to be. But now I am an anime fan. That will last much longer since I am too poor and ”normal” to be full on otaku.
I'm an otaku, I've got no shame. I was an otaku back when it was meant as an insult, and I'm still proudly gonna let my freak flag fly!
Yes I am! A Philippines Oaku of course!
Yes you have you're every day Otaku here just passing through don't mind me....
