AnimeGraph, a tool for exploring/discovering similar anime

It has a pretty cool interface, and I have tried to make it fun to play around with.

Ok, so Ive been tinkering with this and have just been putting in comedy/romance animes and have been getting action and supernatural ones instead of other comedies o_O

What is the basis of the recommended animes?

The similarities between anime are computed using a lot of user rating data... it works pretty well for the most part (with the exception of really obscure series).

The algorithm basically assumes that a user's tastes are defined by k-dimensional vectors (one for each user) and each anime also has a corresponding k-dimensional vector, and users will tend to like shows which are close to their tastes. It works well for the most part, except for really obscure series.

Could you share which series are giving weird results so I can look into it? Thanks.

Lovely Complex and Ouran High School Host Club. I thought both were very popular series which neither gave me other Romance/Comedy listings. They were either supernatural or for children

Yup. Same with Lucky Star. No slice of life in the recommended.

your algorithm fails, man
