If you had exactly half a bucket of melted cheese, a pound of lint, a sock, two sticky notes, and $1 as supplies in a room with no windows and only a locked cat door that is too small for you to squeeze through, what would you do?

Nothing specifically mentioned about the ground of the room. I'll assume its dirt so I'd empty the cheese bucket out and dig a hole under the room.

Imagine that you are on the top of a cliff that is 100 feet high. There is one tree on the top and one halfway down the cliff at a height of 50 feet. You have a rope 75 feet long and a knife to cut the rope. How can you come down from the cliff?

Solution

Cut the rope into two parts - 25 ft and 50 ft. Tie one end of the 25 feet piece to the tree and make a loop at the other end. Thread the 50 feet rope through the loop and fold the rope in half. The length of the resulting rope is 25 + 50/2 = 50 ft. Get down to the lower tree. Pull the rope out of the loop and you've now got 50 feet of rope to climb down with.
