I find this terribly funny, sorry. It just is.
Killing yourself over a character that hardly has anything that makes him a good character outside of being an overpowered badass? Lmao.

Really? I think this is sad.
It shows how much these people who get attached to a show or game, have a serious
psychiatric problem that needs to be dealt with. :/
EDIT: When I mean attached, I mean obsessed (living and breathing that particular object).
Did you ever think that perhaps there's a reason UNDERNEATH what the media says for his suicide?
I mean, that may have been the last straw for him; but certainly he has other issues and he felt to overwhelmed
because nobody was there to help him.
I don't mean to pry but most of us had that kind of situation in our life. Ever myself, I tried to out myself twice. Both
with (luckily) no result. However nothing overly-dramatic or traumatic has ever happened to me. It's only because I
would suffer through my many (medium) sized issues all by myself. I had almost nobody to turn to, and therefore I felt
truly alone.
Suicide is not funny, not matter who or under what circumstances it seems to be under.
On the other hand Claymores seem to die off rather quickly.
Crap.
But more seriously, this is very sad to hear.
I hate to speculate, not knowing much facts. But there are many ways to look at it. Don't think about it like he committed suicide over something fictional but perhaps real things (parent problems, school issues, abuse, whatever) had him on the brink of suicide and that this anime was the only thing keeping him going for the moment. Perhaps the parents are even partly to blame? We just dont know. The anime was just the straw that broke the camels back. I know when I have been down in the dumps in the past, that fictional stuff gave me that break from reality my mind desperately sought. Luckily for me none of my characters died when I was down in the dumps... and also that I diversified, I mean I dont get so obsessed with just one thing but have many hobbies and interests, things I want to do, accomplish, places to see, etc. So many goals in life that keep me moving forward.

I'm suprised the kid was male. I would expect a girl to kill herself for Itachi... as Itachi probably has way more fangirls.
Still, it's a bit sad.

Commiting suicide is an irrational and selfish act of madness in itself, so any reason behind any suicide is irrelevant. And yes, I'm implying that Amanda Todd's suicide (tragic as it was) is no more justified than the boy's (which is no laughing matter) --and yeah, so what if her reasons were more "real" than his? The state of something being "real and existant" is less important than the effect it has on one and how one deals with it. Both didn't really face their problems, both ended up with a warped sense of reality, and both ended their lives--period.

Are we sure it was over the character, and not the English Dub? "Beleive it!" Made me feel suicidal!
I want to see his reaction when he saw Itachi die in the manga/anime. Does that make me a terrible person? I kind of envision it like the angry German kid only more severe.
It's so sad that someone would give up their life for some fictional character.

Thanks to Ms Lucy for this awesome, funny gif.
The person that you are now is not the person that I used to know. You're becoming a stranger that I've never met before. Not liking the change though.
Hmh, poor kid.
Would his death be much more justified to you if he had committed suicide over a different character which you deem "good"? If you were standing right in front of the kid's parents you'd just say "hey kind of funny how your son died" and actually laugh? I don't find how this is funny at all.
Way to just pigeonhole everyone who has ever had an issue they thought was significant enough to end their life over. Suicide is one way to 'deal' with a personal problem, when you're dead you don't have anymore problems, thus it is a very effective way of solving an issue. It just might not always be the best way to deal with a problem. Suicide isn't always irrational and as for the selfish aspect of it; if someone does not wish to live anymore it is a far more selfish act for everyone else to force them to live in misery than for them to take their own life. Having said that, nothing ever falls into nice little extremes all the time, the so called 'black and white' analogy. If a kid wants to kill themselves because his mother won't let him have froot loops for breakfast, that is far different to someone who wants to kill themselves because they've lost function in half their body. The reasons why someone does something is often just as significant or even moreso than the act they have committed.

Nope. It's just silly to commit suicide over a something in the fictional world as a whole.
Why would I laugh in front of them? That's just very cruel. I'll just keep it to myself, simple as that. I did say I feel bad for the parents.

I don't think suicide is a laughing matter at all but if I find out that someone killed themselves for something nonexistent or with no value...I can't take it seriously at all. I mean, like I said I feel bad for the parents of course, since they lost their son though.
I mean, four years ago some kids commited suicide because their favorite band disbanded......Am I really should take that seriously? If it was actually real life problems that some people face, whatever it is, I take it seriously. And old friend of mine was feeling depressed about "problems she had with her parents", I helped her and a lot of people did cause that's something to worry about.....I can't take just it take seriously if someone calls me and is like..."WAAAAH MY FAVORITE CHARACTER DIED".
It's silly stuff to get depressed about.

Once the facts are revealed, then it's different. Like I said, I don't think suicide is a laughing matter at all but the fact that he commuted suicide over a fictional character (I feel bad for the parents that they lost their kids but I don't feel anything for the kid for committing suicide over something so trivial (with the facts we know) .....You guys say it was probably the last straw, or the the last drop but still....it takes it too far.
We don't know that full story at all. The kid could have committed suicide because of his favorite character's death alone or being the last straw. So far only know the former. It's like you guys are saying that it's impossible and out of this world to commit suicide over a trivial reason and that being the sole purpose....
Like I said in a lot of news articles of this sort, I'm not going to sit here and play the speculate or "think outside the source" game all day as that could take forever since we know nothing besides what we were giving.

I feel bad for the parents, not the kid.

It is impossible. I agree that the core reason for his act to commit suicide may be Itachi's death, but CLEARLY he was mentally ill (either depressed or something else). Nobody would NEED to be obsessed with a fictional character, unless something about their life was really making them need an escape from reality.
All I'm saying is that the parents should have gotten him a psychologist. That was quite irresponsible on their part, especially since the father appeared to realize that his son couldn't tell the difference between reality and fictional.
EDIT: Also, I've finally reached 1,000 posts.
So I actually found the article in Crunchyroll, some say that the Russian tabloid said he actually had family problems, so I can sympathize and yeah, you're right that he clear have some mental issues but...
I still can't take it seriously at all. =\ Just like when I said that some people committed suicide when their favorite band disbanded...you can't take it seriously.

First thing I thought was how much of a weeaaboo do you have to be.
He'll be playing alone with his pokeballs... in weird manga Heaven.
Reminds of this female manga fan in China who, on the anniversary of Okita Souji's death (from Hakuouki), committed suicide by ingesting 60 sleeping pills. She had in her hand a poster of that character, and on her wall she wrote "Okita Souji, I'm coming for you!"
