Looking for a good anime series

Looking for something with a really good storyline. Something along the lines of Fullmetal Alchemist or Death Note.

Most anime series that I've seen have nothing but one battle after another (with occasional training from hell in between). While they may be cool to watch occasionally, I am more than tired from those by now.

So if you can recommend a good series I would appreciate it. Any genre and setting would do. Preferable something with English dub available but if its really good I'll watch with subs.

Brotherhood is a decent anime but it is nowhere near as good as the original one. I'll check out Elfen Lied though - trailer looks good

Well, Technically Brotherhood is More original than the other one. It follows the Manga much more closely

You know I am in the same boat as you when it comes to anime.. However, it turns out there is MANY good anime T.V. series, you just gotta look for them.. I'll give you all the ones I know and watch myself..

Guin Saga (Currently one of my favorites)
12 Kingdoms
Kurozuka
Tears of Tiara
Wolf's Rain
Evangelion (Had a lot of unnecessary comedy, the dubs were horrible, Evangelion 1.0 & 2.0 makes up for the series mistakes though and greatly improved on animation, 3.0 comes out in Japan soon.)
Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan & Hakuouki Hekketsuroku (watch Shinsengumi first, you'll have to watch these subbed..)
Sword Art Online (You will also have to watch this subbed as it is currently airing in Japan.. It is ridiculously good and is every nerds dream come true..)
Code Geass was the first anime I watched all the way through, it was the one that got me grounded on anime aside from anime movies, which are always better than any T.V. series..
The Devil May Cry anime is pretty sick, it's a mini-series, very short..
There is a Supernatural anime that is far better than the T.V. Show

I think you will find that Guin Saga, 12 Kingdoms, Tears of Tiara and Wolf's Rain and Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan & Hakuouki Hekketsuroku will have the best stories.. Watch Guin Saga first though, it is a must see..

Let me know how ya like it... The first half of the series, the dubs are absolutely wonderful, but the second half it's like the actors started to not care, I ended up watching it in Japanese for part 2.. Still good though..

You could try Soul Eater, or maybe Black Cat? I dont know if they will match what you like, but you could give it a try.

Someone other good animes for you to watch that I have been looking into.

The Sacred Blacksmith (A good anime if you're a fan of D&D, very good story to it, family friendly as well...)
Fractale (kinda reminded me of a Studio Ghibli film, maybe a bit more mature though, and more comedy..)
Deadman Wonderland (It's similar to Elfen Lied, more messed up though, has a better story, the ending kinda sucked..)
