The gameplay. Could care less about graphics.
Gameplay for sure, you want to make sure the gamer has fun playing it.
Good gameplay is a must. It must at least have decend graphics as well (I "rediscovered" a lot of Playstation 2 games which I am playing now). If it's a decent story but the characters just suck, I could be dropping the game. The same in reverse.
Lone Wolf
It came to mind so I wanted to say that Star Ocean IV had probably the worst story and characters this generation. And Last Story has my favorite this generation.
story and characters. Even with a good story, characters have to be very well constructed to keep it fun and worth playing during all the plot.
Being a hard player, gameplay is secondary for me. even graphics. Most of the most valuable memories playing games were on a gameboy
The Supreme Ruler
of The Whole
Universe
Most important thing: Gameplay. Hopefully DoA5 is awesome because it looks incredibly fun.
@Kaitou+
I totally agree with you. It depends on the game. Obviously, at least in my opinion, a race videojame doesn't need such a great story as a RPG. Also, what I think it is very important is the way you control the game. For example, in Xenoblade, I like how you can move the camera and how you can keep walking while the menu is open, but in TLOZ: Skyward Sword, which has an amazing story and great graphics, the camera is really unconfortable sometimes, and the actions don't respond well some times.
The gameplay is in my opinion most important. If the game is fun to play i think i made a good purchase. Second most important factor is the playtime the game gives me. In recent times many shooters and action games need only 4-6 hours to be finished. I wouldn´t pay 50-60 euros for such a game. i would get more time for my money if i spend it going to the cinema. the least important factor for me in a game is the graphic. if the game is not good the graphic won´t make it good.
Music is also really important! Please listen to this music if you could!
I think that a game actually needs to be well rounded to be good.Though,if the story, characters and gameplay are good,I can let the graphic slide.I do love the soundtrack. You need good music to draw people into the game.Like the Zelda soundtrack, for instance.I got a cd of them with Skyward Sword.I listened to it,and it made me want to play, even though I wasn't planning to because I bought it for my dad.
I wen poof for awhile, huh? Sorry, I guess I just kinda...dropped off. School started.
When now I'm back, have more anime under my belt, and am ready to join you all again.
That you never tire of playing it. Even if you do, you come back to it eventually. I have done this several times with my favorite videogames.
First, the story is most important. I like multiplayer games, but games with a great plot and story are just too good.
Second, the makers of the game have to show that they care about our need for entertainment. Game makers such as Valve put Easter eggs, trivia and other cool stuff in their games for our entertainment.
Lastly, the game play has to have creative animation, fighting styles or puzzle situations.

Yes, I basically described most valve games, bite me.
Last game played was Prey and Mirror's Edge DLC
Currently involved in Silent Hill Homecoming
Diablo III Witch Doctor
I think the graphics, gamestyle, storyline, and usage of great scenery makes a great game. Like i love Capcom because they have very good art style, thus making a good selling series off fighting games and such other game categories. this also is for Street Series, well From 3rd Strike and present day.
@Ayu 「あゆ」Keep that up and I'll derep you to make you stop bragging.

I Would Have To Say Alot Of Gameplay So You Don't Beat It Quick And Some Add Ons To Keep The Game Fresh.
I think a balance of everything is what makes a game good. Yeah gameplay whatever, but it takes more than that. A good example is Wind Waker. Awesome game, but a lot of people disliked the art style, therefore they never played it, hated on it, and ultimately made it a bad game in their opinion. If you want a game to be considered good, you'll have to balance graphics, story, level design, character design, plot, replayability, and more, to a point where people aren't just making a big deal out of one thing (graphics, plot, boobaliciousness), they're talking about the game itself. There are games I can only play through once that look amazing, and games I can't bring myself to play at all even though it was fun.
tl;dr: OoT wasn't the best Zelda game ever.
Atmosphere is another important component. It's like that fealing you have when playing a zelda game, the graphics & music give the game an overall feal to it. Fallout is a great example, the 50s era theme mixed with a destroyed world makes the game stand out on its own.
Explorer Oak ~ Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's seed, that held its ground. Never give up!
Well the obviousm one will be gameplay but I also really want a game to have a good storyline and/or good characters. I usually play games with crap gameplay but good storylines than ones with good gameplay with a crap story
Music and gameplay.
A game can be really good without graphics (Pacman?... Asterioids?), the same with storyline.
A recently example... Freedom Fighters, it's got a very powerful music but the storyline is simple and a copy of Red Alert (?
But the gameplay in the game is very adictive and you want to play and play and play lol
needs deep charaters and back stories and them should b connected and hav meaning
