Depends on the lens, mostly ISO400 at f/1.4 or ISO1600 at f/2.8 (2 stops slower, so 2 stops more sensitive), maintaining a shutter speed around 1/250s.

Except the panning shot of the ball of course... that was 1/30s shutter.

    These were all-manual prime lenses.

    Why do you ask?

Nice shots! I suggest you try panning It's an awesome effect when the subject is in action.

    Professor: So what's your theme?
Me: Insanity is what makes an artist different.
    Professor: Are you insane?
    Me: uh....yeah? Sometimes?

I was just wondering. I work for my Universities newpapers and I photograph basketball all the time. I wanted to see what other sports photographers ISO's are. I shoot with my 85mm 1.2, 24-70mm 2.8 or the 70-200mm 2.8 and keep the aperture around 3.2 and an iso around 3000-4000 so I don't risk a shaky image

That is pretty high ISO! What shutter speed range are you usually getting with those settings?

I was shooting with a wider aperture, but I can get away with it because I was using a crop sensor so my DOF is not so shallow. You're still using the Canon 5DII, right? You gotta stop down on that, but then you have more headroom for higher ISO as well. It always works out one way or another.

Yes I still use my 5d II which is why I can use a higher iso. But the thing is with sports there is obviously is going to be a lot of movement from the players and from you moving your camera everywhere. My philosophy is blurry images is forever where high iso can always be changed in post processing. I shoot around a 2.8-3.5 aperture which gives me a shutter speed around 1000-2500 and sometimes 3200

    I'll post some examples later
