I figured it's about time I make an art thread...



Title: Domo riding through a forest of bottles
Type: Reverse value drawing
Material: Charcoal, eraser
Time: ~5-6 hours
Other notes: Even though it looks yellow, it should be black. The entire paper was covered with charcoal, then I took an eraser to put in the values, hence the name reverse value drawing.

Thanks! Of course I didn't do it all in one shot, I sat down and did about 30 minutes or so at a time. Unless it's something I hate (i.e. water color or oil paint -_-), then I tend to work on it for quite a bit of time without even noticing how much time went by :P

Very nice. I'm happy you won the DOTM. Congratulations. Also.. I remember using charcoal to draw as a little kid. I hated it so much. It's really hard to manipulate.. that and pastels. D<

Looks really good! Creative stuff. I could never do that kind of shading/lighting, need alot of patience and tolerance

reminds me of the good o'days in art class where you have to stare at a plate of fruits for 2 hours and draw it/shade it.... well its not like i would defy my teacher but occasionally i would add something of my own ^^

Sooo....I'm going to critique my own work. and thus refer to myself as "you" :3

You did a good job showing depth, but I feel like there could be more. I'm sure the cast shadows were more than one shade of black so those could definitely have more depth. Remember that bottles are highly reflective and will portray an image of yourself and the things behind you. I see a few things reflected, but I know there should have been a looot more things reflected. I feel like Domo himself doesn't have enough texture, and the eye on the right definitely feels flat. Well done with the bottle on the far right, although I'm sure it could've reflected just a little more. The skate is absolutely horrible, I see barely any depth in it at all, except for the wheels. Watch the handle on the bottle on the far left. I know it's a small handle, but that's waaay too small.
