Impressions you leave on people

You all leave a first impression on people before you get to know them, and an impression of you after they've gotten to know you. Generally, what are other peoples' first impressions of you? Good, bad, somewhere in between. And after they get to know you, what are their impressions of you afterwords? Were their first impressions pretty spot on, or were you hiding your true self under a mask, wanting others to see through it? Also, impressions can vary depending on what mood you're in, the situation, or if you're having a bad day. Feel free to add that as a factor into your response as well.


Well, I usually leave people with either a good impression, or a bad one. Good, as in they can see I'm just like them quite easily. Bad, because of how I carry myself, my serious demeanor and either blank, serious, or angry facial expressions. I usually look like quite the moody and brooding guy who can hurt someone, but that's just a mask. People usually have a good impression of me after getting to know me because I generally treat everyone with respect and kindness. Good day or bad, I try to treat everyone how I always do.

To be honest, I don't know. At best, I seem polite and kind, and at worst I seem awkward and uh ... not sure what else.

I hate almost everyone, so I don't really meet new people.

I don't talk much to new people, I don't know the boundaries of their speech, their level of intelligence, or anything else. And I'm too passive to make any interesting sort of topic.

So perhaps the impression others make of me is one of indifference.

I think I leave a fair impression for people about me. I'm just being myself, and I allow them to accept me for who I am and what I am. Much as possible, I want to be mutual with everyone and with anyone. I don't expect to be liked, but preferably have respect when I give them respect. If someone would not be kind, I'll be kind either way. Its like a give and take deal for me.

It's either a, "This guy in hilarious and makes me smile" impression, or a "This guy is weird and kinda creepy" impression. =/

They probably think I'm weird because I never talk to someone if I don't know them or because I always ignore them (headphones), if I do talk to them they would probably think I'm nice.

From the farewell speeches on our class' graduation, I learned that I leave the impression of the sleepy guy in the corner. That impression continues as they get to know me more although I become a lot more talkative if its with someone with the same interests such as Starcraft, anime or Shogun.
Also, recently I apparently been mistaken as a Mexican. I dunno why people keep on thinking my name is Carlos even after I tell them my name :/

Well, people often seem to judge others based on what type of character they look like.
In my case, I guess I look somewhat villainous and authoritarian. Even though I'm not quite like that. I guess it's just what I look like - even if I dress casually.
At school, the deliquents and "bad people" would often gather around me until they understood I had no interest in whatever they were up to. I had good attendence and I rarely caused any trouble.
Usually people entirely change their opinion of me after a short conversation.

It really depends on my mood at the time and the person I'm with. Sometimes I leave them thinking that he's funny, quiet, strange etc. However, if we are basing first impressions by our appearance and body language rather than verbal communication then I like to think I leave a good, friendly or at least a neutral impression.

I dont know.. I think I would be awkward to begin with, cause I always start of shy. But then they would notice as I start to get comfortable that im quite casual and easy going. I would like to think people would see me as a nice, hounest guy.

This is going back quite a few years ago now but I thought perhaps I helped change one person's life around by my influence......today I just learnt that he's gone to prison for attacking someone with a knife........just proves to you that sometimes a good influence just isn't enough these days

I've actually asked my friends about this before, and they generally said that their first impression of me was pretty much 'the token Asian guy'.

I'm not really sure what that means

1. I find it very interesting you created this thread seeing that you also created that "Making new friends" thread. You seem to be very extroverted and philosophical in your own way. I respect it completely though.

As for impressions, I'm on the extremes. I usually either leave a breath taking impression on someone, making them really reflect or I make a fool of myself, struggling to get rid of that horrible first impression I've made of myself. Over time people do get to know me for the guy that I am though.

I think I naturally have a "cold" look, so people are kind of intimidated. I probably give off an arrogant first impression.
