So what do you prefer in your rpg's....A world map like in the early final fantasy's or no map like in the newer ones??
I prefer the world map and wish they would go back...

lol.
yes.. a world map is quite desirable. The alternative seems lazy imo; "where am I?", game: "lol, idk"
The Brighter the Light the Darker the Shadow
it jsut takes the fun out of exploring and finding stuff. FF 10 and 13 are so linear its mind numbing
I'll vote for world map. It lets you see the world unfold around you as apposed to just looking at a map. I miss the airships.
In FFXII and XIII I don`t mind that there is no world map, don`t really need it since most of the game is a long narrow hallway :P
In the Elder Scrolls game you need a world map.
In the Mass Effect games you can`t have a world map, since there are alot of worlds :P
World maps are amazing.
I don't mind the free roam maps as those have a sense of exploration value to them as well. I do miss world maps though. It would be nice to see more of them.
I'm sure you mean an open world, not just a map of one; in which case I very much prefer an open world versus--as Des put it--a long narrow hallway.
Although to be honest, I'd be willing to forgive lack of interactivity for really good plot and characters in an rpg; which frankly is too much to ask of jrpgs it would seem.
I think most RPG's need a world map and also fast travel like in Elder Scrolls is a bonus
Senjougahara Fascination
yea i definitely like to take the scenic route
I liked the world maps in FFVII and FFVIII, and I kind of miss those. So yeah, I say 'yay' for the world maps. ^^ Now I feel like replaying FFVIII.. See what you did? lol :P
And not to pull your halo down, around your neck and tug you off your cloud,
but I'm more than just a little curious how you're planning to go about making your amends to the dead.
Your halo slipping down to choke you now.
Running around in Final Fantasy XIII is annoying as hell, yet I really liked FFX for some reason...*confusion*
But yes, world maps are needed. I like RPGs because they make me feel as if I'm in another world as another person. I don't find myself immersed in FFXIII as I do in other games.
Edit: Also, I miss TRUE turn-based system. ATB is alright sometimes, but other times not so much

World maps come in handy. Plus they show the scope of region or world you are in and with that, scopes the amount of content you are going to play though.
I kind of enjoy not having a world map. While having one available is nice, it's also fun to just wander around, sometimes meaninglessly for hours just to finally reach your set destination. In the older Final Fantasty games, I didn't understand how to access the maps and since my experience with video games back then was so feeble, I just drifted off to random places until I found my location.
World maps are needed. In most RPG's it's cool to just wander around, look at the scenery,or go into a town and see how life is in there.I kinda miss the open world in most of the newer RPG's.
