Internet censorship

This is something that is being considered by many parties but, do you think that it is possible and do you think that it would help or hinder us?

I personally think that this idea is really stupid. If you are trying to protect children though internet censorship then its a matter of not letting your young children use the internet, upbringing and environment.

I am a strong believer that anyone who suggest/supports such methods is a "lazy parent". A parent is someone who is responsible for what their child is subject to. Lets face it I was subject to porn at like age 8 or 9 from finding magazines laying around at my fathers house. I'm not scared for life. And my mother made it scary for me to cuss around her in my teen/younger years that even now when I'm at the age where I can it still bothers me. She did that without being violent/forceful. She just grounded me and gave me this disapproval look. I could listen to cuss words all I wanted as long as I didn't repeat them.

Internet censorship is bologna. They just are getting toooooo power happy.

The only censorship in the internet I approve would be of child pornography.
The rest I believe should be up to the parents to enforce and monitor.

Now when you say censorship, do you mean parental blocks on internet usage, or making it so things already on the net get censored?

I wrote a paper a few years back in which I condemn any sort of blockage tools, be it parents, jobs, or schools, but it would be tl;dr to post it here.

It's all up to the parents to stop their children from seeing the things they don't want them to see. but, honestly, in this new generation no-one cares about censorship except for those born before the 17th century. [evil]

I think things in general are censored too much as it is. It's not going to hurt anyone if someone hears the f word. It's up to the parents to decide what kids can and can't do. No body else should have to censor anything.

In my view, really any form of outright blanket censorship justified on the basis of shielding children from unwanted influences is simply capitulating to the lowest common denominator. If you let the standards of children dictate what adult citizens say, read or watch you end up with a nation filled with children.
