Teenagers these days

I tend to see teens (and early 20s, my age) going one of two ways these days.
You get the ones drinking, doing drugs and banging eachother fairly regularly, but you also get their polar opposite - the ones who sit behind a computer all day just social networking. It's bloody terrible, few of them even bother working.

What I miss were the years a few years back where the Internet wasn't as highly regarded and everyone'd be huddled around a Nintendo 64 or a pool table or something socialising properly. It's become rare for me these days. I get a night once every week or two hanging with the lads or having a poker night, but a good many people are too hung up on their vice of choice be it drugs or a computer to do anything worthwhile.

I love how 6 year olds have cell phones and make up on these days.

I've seen this and I'm not sure whether I'm extremely pissed or envious. It's probably a mix of both.

Is it really worth is to buy a god damn child a cell phone? Who are they calling, Elmo?

Probably other little kids. I mean, I doubt Elmo has time in-between making it rain at his local club to field calls from life's noobs.

It's pretty pathetic that all teens only can talk about sex or drugs or alcohol now.

I'm not sure about this one. I mean, you kind of WANT them to talk about it. Maybe talk about it a little less? I guess I feel that dialogue is good, so long as it's not "yo dude let's do it/drugs/alcohol."

I didn't know you were gay just because you haven't had sex before 16.

So ignorant. Although I suppose the people who are saying this are using gay as a simple insult, because gay people can (and often do, newsflash) have sex. Unless they mean "straight sex", in which they should petition Webster to change the definition of sex "to make sure no one thinks gay sex is real sex."

I'm fed up with my generation. Not to mention, all they can do is @#$% talk each other and whine about how their life sucks. Too bad, grow up.

I'm not really fed up with my generation. Because I know the generation after me will be worse, the one after that worse still (assuming we still have "generations" and we all don't get swept away by some massive tsunami). Also, I'm sure someone has pretty much said the same thing about every generation before us (imagine what they were saying in the 60s/70s!).

As for the whining part, Madea (Tyler Perry) had a great quote during the play version of "Madea's Big Happy Family": "What is it with you 80s kids? Something about you damn kids born in the 80s, you think everything's supposed to be given to you, you don't want to work for anything."

I agree~!!! I hate what the world has become. That's why I'm adopting/ I was raised the old fashioned thinking of our ancestors.

What would six year olds do with CPs? Play games? Total waste of money. Yeah maybe they could use it for emergencies, but chances are there won't be much emergencies that'd happen.

And children today say bad words already at a very young age. Like WTH?! I started swearing when I was 10 or 11 years old and even I think that was too young.

And us teenagers. Ugh. I blame the media for it.

Why does this thread make teenagers sound like emos or sad people?

It's true that teenagers are spending more time on their cell phone or in front of a computer screen on a social network or even getting wasted etc. Somewhat depressing but there it is. I'm guessing the main reason why teenagers or younger kids are like this is because of media and perhaps bad parenting.

I said it before and I will probably say it again teenagers now a days are generally completely insane and out of control.

I remember when a 10 year old came up to me, and said she had 28 boyfriends all ready. Like what are their parents doing.
Drinking is the worst with them. They go out, get drunk, and just collapse everywhere. Then they go and post it so facebook.
And that's all they want to do, they're like 13. One said " I drink and smoke so much, I don't think I could have fun without it" thats just wrong.
I don't want to hear about how bombed you got last weekend, I could care less.
Also, I love how they go and get piercings every weekend? What is that the new thing? Let's see who can get the most pointless holes in our body? It's like a race with them. For @#$% sakes, grow up already.

Again with the cell phones, also when a kid break their phone, the parents go and run out and get them one like it was nothing. AND THEY KEEP DOING IT.
Let them learn a lesson, if they break something, don't go and get them another one, let them earn it on their own. Are you stupid? Yeah that's really teaching them how life works.
I broke my phone, and I waited a year for a new one. My parents didn't care. They also would post it on facebook right, because its so funny to hear about how you broke your phone.

My younger cousin has told me that her classmates in her class are dating, and what they're in the 3rd grade? ): I think it was pretty darn cool that boys and girls go their own way. Now they want to date and f*ck like little bunnies.
I worry about the new generation, and if we all get old and go to the hospital, we have to expect them to take care of us. I'm kind of scared. ;/

I can't stand kids these days. I'd like to smack some sense into them but I really don't wanna go to jail X_X The cell phones, the fake-up (what I call make-up) the annoying brat attitudes that they deserve everything for doing nothing. They know nothing of the fact that if you want something your gonna have to earn it! The world doesn't come served up on a silver platter! Back in my day, we had to use things like VHS tapes and Floppy Disks. And every phone was permanently fused to a wall, connected by a cord.

These kids don't know how good they have it.

Agreed, though I think kids these days have it more convenient rather than good; and that isn’t always a good thing.

IMO, we have too many excuses for kids to stay inside these days; whether it’s researching a book online instead of going to an actual library, talking to their friends via their iPhones instead of meeting face-to-face, or even going to school if they can afford being homeschooled or simply take online classes, etc.

Make these kids struggle, fail and fall more times than they care to count once they’re finally grown up. It’s the only way they’ll ever learn anything of real value.

I thought for a while it was just the kids in my neighborhood. 0_o A lot of sex crazy pre-teens/teens around here, and I shake my head in disgust and wonder "What the hell happened to people?" I'm just mad that my little sister has to put up with the craziness.

That must be pretty frustrating, but at least you can be there to see that your sis isn’t out there all by herself without anyone to set her straight. Bearing this in mind, what’s really frustrating are how many kids are out there without any kind of guidance out there at all, just learning by example with whatever else is around them.

In any case; certainly, teenagers have it too easy in terms of convenience and what’s available to them. They need to realize it, as much as they can, that there are things they can’t do with the click of a mouse or the flip of a phone. Still, even if it’s a serious problem, other people who know this just need to stand up and kick their little butts until they start to get it.

Because they're giving them to like 15 year olds. More and more kids want jobs. Because they want money. You don't need money to have fun at that age.

More kids want jobs theses days, because everything cost to dang much! I can't even go to the movies the tickets cost like 10$. I can't even buy clothes with 20$ all I could get is a shirt and maybe a pair of pants if I'm lucky. Why do shirts have to cost 15-20$? why do pants have to cost 20-30$ dollars? why do tiny little items you can barely see have to cost 12$ or more? You basically need a job just to buy anything.I can get chicken nuggets, fries and a large pop for 5$ but I can't get myself a stupid shirt?

I feel both offended but at the same time I agree.

I'm not like other teenagers, in fact, I don't even use my phone that much, let alone text. I wish there was other music in my area besides white people singing about having sex. I'm also completely against dating at this age, all my friends talk about going out and things of the like. It's crazy. The way they act too, they even use 'ghetto' as a complement, which is beyond me. When I'm chatting with them all they're interested in is sex, drugs, and gangs.

My friends never get outside either, they're always chatting on FaceBook or what ever they use.

Oh speaking of FaceBook, my moms promised that my 12 year old brother wouldn't get his until he was 13, yet they just got him one a few months ago. Come to think of it, it's also the parents/guardians' faults in a way, letting children of this age be exposed to all this stuff.

Plus none of them use acceptable grammar, punctuation, or spelling at all, which drives me crazy.

Hey, I'm only 14 and I made this post, of course teens will find if offensive. But it's true, they think they know everything once when become a teen. So that means they need money or a cell or damn, some even want a car.
They should just go out and enjoy what they got around them instead of worrying about buying things or who has the best devices. The point is to have fun. You don't need drugs, or sex, to do that. Especially not at these ages.
Also, Teen mom and Super Sweet 16 should be taken off the air. What stupid idiotic shows they are, yeah lets show the world what kids should do when they want something. Piss on to their parents if they dont get what they want.

Following is a response to the thread.

1) I was reading through the post in this thread and all I have seen were blames on the childrens. Has it accured to any of you that it might be the parents fault? As someone said in the last few post, it is easy to make up an excuse. When a child whines and throws a tamtrum, parents would want them to settle down by giving them what they want. If you walk into Wal-Mart or the mall one day and observe the parents with atleast 1 to 3 kids, than I am sure you'll see that. Some parents don't have that willpower to stand their kids whining. Some parents neglects their kids. For example, letting them play Call of Duty: Black Ops on their own without monitering them every 10 minutes. They don't really do research on the media prior to letting their kids being exploited to them. I don't even let my 10 year old brother play Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 if I'm not around. Media had nothing to do with it, it's basically the parents fault for letting things get out of hand. They have the power to prevent it, they have the authority to control their kids. But the problem is, they don't use it. Rather they take the easy way out and that is often letting the kids get their way.

Note:Lets not try to be hypocrites, we aren't any better ourselves. We're on the computer typing these messages and responding back as we see fit.

Now, as for you Stick Figure about your post: "They are letting those 15 year olds have those jobs."

2) Have you thought why some of those 15 year olds are out trying to get a job? Some of those kids could have a horrid household and simply want a way out. Some parents do actually force their kid out of the house to look for a job. Or they have to fend for themself because their parents are either...well dead or out right neglecting them. It is the survival instinct that would more than likely get those 15 year olds to get a job.
3) Now that I am done talking breifly about why those kids are out getting a job. I'll start with another fact and could be easily looked up in the laws. No place should be giving kids under 16 a job, if they do, they should be shut down or something. I know that some place do allow this, but generally most don't and actually uphold that law. That law was created because back between either the 1800's or 1900's, kids workd in a mine and alot of them died and suffered and so because of that; the law was created to prevent child abuse.

4) I agree with you that kids atleast under 16 shouldn't have a phone, I mean what for? A lot of times I'm pissed at my aunt in law and blood related uncle for letting their two kids play with their iphone. Their youngest, is 4 at the moment, plays with his dad's iphone and actually buys games nilly willy as if it was nothing (yes, they live in a comfortable life. Unlike me), and their oldest pretty much plays games 24/7 and play all these toys than gets bored of them 3 days later. Again, going back to my 1st paragraph, it's parent neglect. Kids of te future are pretty much taking way too many things for granted. Even i myself, I hate where I am living. All I see are cars, cars, and more cars. My vision of life is more like this: Live in a neighborhood where I can just walk into town and it'll have all that I need, a movie theater, cafe, school, playground, etc would be nice but I wouldn't like it if I have to drive a car. Where people would walk to places rather than driving in a car and getting into accidents and every thing else related to that. You know, kind of like those nieghborhoods you would see in anime. That is what I define as a peaceful place. So because of parent neglect that kids are like mini-teenagers.

Technology is defiantly changing our youth thats for sure. I'm sure if it's for the best, kids seem to be finding out about everything five years too early...-_- I blame a lot of it on what's being shown on cable today. Yeah yeah yeah. everyone has heard this speech but look at this generation of shows! That don't have any cartoons or sitcoms that are meant to appeal to kids ages 7-12. So rather then kids idolizing someone of good nature that want to be like the idiots you see on MTV. -_- Though I can't point out T.V can I? The internet has made things far to easy for kids to find out anything. A lot of it is facebook...WHY ARE TEN YEAR OLDS GETTING FACEBOOK!? Even when Myspace showed up this wasn't a problem.

Cellphones are something that should be saved for older kids. There is a reason for school phones, I don't know what the heck parents are thinking giving a six year old who can barely read a cellphone.

As for the age of drinking and sex 11-16. Honestly every generation has had those types. I don't like it, in fact those types of kids treated me like crap until High School. (Irony I got the last laugh sense I make good money and I'm going to a University) Just ignore the idiots of your generation and stick to the good kids.

These days, there is no going outside and playing, I RARELY if at all see any school age kids out. It's all video games, texting, computers, social networks, etc. When I was kid I used the computer to play DOOM, at my friend's house. We went on bike rides and everything, now friends probably barely actually talk to each other, and families too.

I don't like how these things are taking away from actual people to people communication, a person is not a phone.

I didn't even get a cell till I was 17, and I didn't use it. I don't use my current one, I just use pay phone xD

I also see kids raising kids, and so much irresponsible behavior even in my college "I got drunk" "I was drunk!" "I haven't drank for 6 months isn't that amazing?" You're like 18, you shouldn't be an alcoholic.

When I was in elementary school, I was rarely inside!! Seriously. I was always out
walking around with my best friend, riding bikes, swimming, riding horses, just out playing
with my pets, just about anything outside! I still like to be outside, but sadly, I'm not a kid anymore
so it woud look kind of weird if I were sitting in my front yard playing in the dirt with some toy cars
and my ninja turtles!! Hahah.

I laugh at you people. You seem to forget how.. unadvanced technology was when you were kids. It was through the roof to buy a big bulky computer that had hardly anything on it and when you got online you had to listen to the EEEEeeeEEEeee AOL dialtone. Websites were nothing like they were today. Put it frankly the internet and computers were a piece of crap. cellphones didn't really exist you still had carphones that you installed into your car.

We all know if you had the SAME technology as a kid as you do now. You'd be locked in your house all over it just like you are now. Stop complaining because you are just sad that you didn't have a computer most of your life like the following does and get over it. Don't talk about them not knowing what certain things are. Trends come and go.

I don't care how the other kids act or what they have. I had fun as a kid and that's all that matters. I'll let the new generation experience their youth however they please. Why don't you people admit that the world is changing. You don't hear much about the old folks sitting online complaining to us because we had easy bake ovens. Tom and Jerry to watch on sick days from school. Pogo sticks. toy cars. When they were our ages as kids they had wooden stuff. Barely any electricity and had to work. Geez our own generation likes to complain a lot.
