Help find an anime from my childhooD!

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anybody could help me.

When I was a young boy (Around 10 years old) I caught occassional segments from an anime show on TV here in Scotland. Thinking back, I only remember a few details, but having watched more anime now as an adult, I'd really like to track it down and watch it! But, here-in lies the problem; this was nearly 15 years ago, and as I said before, I don't remember a lot!

Here's what I do remember:

The setting seems to be modern or in the near future, and it seems to be a sort of action/comedy superhero affair.

The main character seems to be a male early in the series, but changes to a female.

Now, from what I remember, it seems like some kind of walkman-style gadget gives the main character his/her powers, and they have some kind of blue armour or outfit on?

Anybody who can help me find this is my hero. Please help me find this small piece of my childhood!

Oh it's not a gender bender kind of thing! It goes from an individual male character, to a completely different female character.

It just seemed really fun and interesting, so hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about!

1. It was transformed into an action hero.
2. Before the walkman-style transformation of the boy.
3. He used to fight some of the machines.
4. the red and blue costume.

Anime was broadcast when I was a child.

Thanks but no, that isn't it. The main character is older and I think the costume was just blue.
