It wouldn't surprise me if he was one of those gamers who does nothing bar gaming.
I've known a few people that got to that point and the combination of too many high energy snacks coupled with bugger all exercise tends to leave them both quite portly and insanely aggressive when someone interrupts their gaming. Granted none of them murdered anyone, but I've seen tantrums and 'adults' throwing things around and smashing things.

Thankfully these people are a minority, unfortunately some of my old friends have fallen to the addiction.

He might have been one of those gamers. I knew a kid like that back in high school, and he was crazy but stupid. But the dude in the news report is definitely sick in the head. It's sad to see and hear about people like this. I guess some people can't turn the games off, take a walk and smell the roses of life.

According to Anderson's statement, the 11th grader at Daniel Boone School in North Philadelphia paced for about three hours in his South Philadelphia home trying to decide if he should kill his mother.

This wasn't something decided in the heat of the moment or even an act of blind rage, but a calculated decision the boy made of his own accord. His mother wasn't even awake when he killed her, so she certainly didn't present any threat to him. He hated her for what she did and decided that she had to pay.

I keep seeing people saying that he is sick for doing such a thing. Look at the society we are in now a days, there are music going around about killing innocent people, commercials about what you should have. Put that together inside of a persons mind and you got someone who thinks that the world owes them. Put a single parent into that category, the kid has to think for themselves and if they find it more comfortable inside of a virtual world and that is taken away? That is basically taking away their world, their cool. People who are raised like this? They tend to not think correctly, they have the feeling that the world owes them, that everything is there for them. If a parent isn't there to take care of them and then finally decides to take care of them? Off balances the persons mind, they get thoughts that could turn very bad. I don't mean to overstep anyone or say he isn't to be blamed but I say it isn't 100% his fault, the way he was raised, the things that have been set into his mind, those are in consideration as well. That is my opinion on this...

It could also show the type of things that he was exposed to and many of society's bad influences. Put all those reasons together plus an argument and you get a murder.

It could be a result of his poor impulse control, and coupled with mental issues, there you go. Saying the games are responsible is incorrect; something else needs to snap in a person when they reach this level of intolerance in themselves and end up killing one of their parents.

At least he appears to show remorse, little good it does, though.

I get so sick and tired of hearing people making themselves out to be proverbial poster boys for the "The video game made me do it, Mommy! -Tear-" defense. Tons of video games are loaded with violence, gore, and blood. Have an influential child that's suggestive to these kinds of things? Don't let 'em play it.

We live in an increasingly violent world as it is. If these kids don't see it in video games, they'll see it on the news, on television, at school (hopefully as little as possible, but it happens), etc. What's next?

See, zelda teaches you to bust into people's houses announced, break their pots and steal their cash. You can even slaughter creatures (although they are "evil" to begin with), and all in the name of defeating some evil pig dude and saving a princess chick. So if anything, anyone who plays zelda should be robbing banks and houses, while saving random females from certain doom.

Violent individuals just usually gravitate towards violent games to funnel their deep-seated aggression and rage. That's probably the connection no one seems to make in today's society; they just instinctively go "oh, bad games are bad" and don't put much stock into who's actually playing them to begin with.

Eh, kinda iffy on that one. I know that, for me at least, video games can be somewhat of an outlet; but it helps just as much, if not more, to get in there and let out my anger and frustration through my fists through training. For some, venting their anger through games isn't quite the same as being able to unleash it irl. It can give you a greater sense of power, control, and authority, if you understand what I'm saying. That feeling in the game can last only so long as you're playing (if you're not getting your butt kicked, that is. >>), and it can quickly end when the game's over.

This is completely appalling. There is an obvious lack of control plaguing society, and you see it all the time when people argue and sling abuse, or even fight, over pathetic issues or something that is just non-existent - examples like this are just at the extreme end of the stick. They never think it through, and it’s like cause and effect are completely forgotten.
