What makes a real man is knowing when he's done something wrong and apologizes.
If he protects the ones he loves with all that he's got.
If he respects women.
If he does what he feels in his heart is right.
If he's not afraid to be who he is

When he injects steroids into himself, that makes him a real man so much that he can be considered not a man anymore. Actually, he is probably not a man anymore. XD
Well on a serious note, what makes a man to people is a guy that at least has a scar, knows how to fix something, can take care of himself, is able to take care or know how to take care of other things, can admit his feelings and stand by them, knows how to manage his own budget, can be respectful to other people's opinions and property, has courage or knows when to be brave in a situation, knows some sort of fighting move whether it is good or not, knows how to be a gentlemen, can get some decent directions to a place and is able to get there, know how to win at something, has a penis. There's probably some other things I'm forgetting. No, a real man does not have to have all of these qualities, I was just making a list.

Personally, I find the accentuated gender differences kinda meh. I don't really care if a man is overly feminine, or if a girl is overly masculine, since members from both genders can be either way, or neutral. (I'm also more neutral, I suppose.)
But when the term "real man" is used, I think of Chuck Norris...

To be able to look inside himself and know his flaws and face his fears
To protect your loved ones and those who cant defend themselves
To be able to stand against adversity

Wisdom: I don't think I have much of that
Courage: I have the balls to stand up when I want to
Compassion: ... not when the person doesn't deserve it, or doesn't really need it
Add to that: humility
Don't know how much of a real man that makes me. But I think those are things that should be in both men and women.

there is no difference.
All males are 'real men'.
I can say this because the reverse of 'real men' would be 'fake men', which is completely absurd and makes no sense.

I also do not believe that real men exist, real men seen in this way is an ideal people believe a man should reach for.
You can also try the case that real men would be akin to gentlemen and the supposed "fake men" would be akin to royal d-bags.

To add on to what I already said: the only time that "real man" isn't used as shamming language is when it is used to make fun of men.
So there is the "real man" who is obedient to his government, employers, and then his wife with reckless abandon, and there is the "real man" who is a complete idiot and does impractical (read stupid) things and somehow still gets the job done.

I don't view "real man" (in the good sense of the word) as a gender-related thing, but just (in my culture, and probably everywhere) as good things that people should build in themselves. So yeah, like someone already said, women can be "real men."
In the bad sense of the word, it can be for humor ( , or like Chuck Norris), a wacky shaming tactic for betas, or just a way for some men to attract the manliness-hungry women. I'm mostly neutral on that.
