It's...kinda dirty. ぬめる means "to be slippery, slimy, wet", so ぬめりだす means "to begin to become slippery, slimy, and wet".

Those two lines,
手を汚して二人は、くらくら闇の中で
ぬめりだす3号室(ひとつめ)のロマンス。
Think about it: what kind of "romance" will be slimy and wet when it involves two people in a dark room with sullied hands? ;D

I guess environments make the difference? Of course I didn't dig it out of a dictionary and start randomly using it, I just always knew the word since the people and media around me always knew and used it.

Although, yea, I do think I like the world a little too much, but can't help it, it has the double meaning of both getting physically dirty 汚(よご)れる and getting chastely impure 汚(けが)れる, and it just sounds somewhat poetic. XD

"Smirched" is an excellent alternative, meaning soiled and/or dishonored. As long as your audience is ~ 150 years old.
Let such unseemly deeds our brave escutcheon ne'er besmirch.

Whoa, "smirched"!? Now even I think that's a little too...obscure. And thanks for the kind offer, but I think I'll stick with contemporary English, haha.

And spontaneity is nice, but making sure that my audience can easily understand the translation is the top priority here... (Although, it is often hard to balance between articulation and eloquence.) I don't want the readers to have to go to their dictionary just to understand my translation; that's just silly! XD But in this case, I bet 95% of the people I know will scratch their head when they hear "smirched". Words like "sullied" is as far as I'll go, since most people know it but just don't use it as often.
