Synopsis:

"The Upper Region sends two angels "Panty" and "Stocking" to Earth. Panty, a blond woman in teen-celebrity-style clothes, and Stocking, a black haired woman in gothic lolita fashion, fight against peculiar ghosts."

The same director as Tegen Toppa Gurren Lagann?! That makes it sound way awesome! Too bad it looks like a show that would air on a kids tv show.

Well I'm going to give this a shot anyway, I mean looks can be deceiving. Episode 1 aired today if you want to see it.

Was about to start a thread for it now, since it deserves one!!

First of, it`s deffinitly not a kid show, with all that cursing, ecchiness etc :P
Second, it is supposed to look like a western cartoon, becaus Gainmax is making fun of it
And it is making fun of all that moe we see nowadays in anime.

The art style is unique for an anime.

A company of ghosts has moved into Daten City, taking advantage of human greed. Two angels, Panty and Stocking, are sent from heaven to exterminate them -- but in reality they got kicked out for bad behavior.

Haha, I just finished watching episode one, and I can already tell you I love this anime, I laughed so hard. xD
The kind of dry humor they use is excactly the kind I like.
And the art is hilarious, at one point it looks like an animation series, then it looks like an actual anime, and then it looks realistic.
Gotta love it.
I look forward to episode 2.

I plan on at least checking it out, but I have my doubts; it's from GAINAX, who have the amazing ability to turn good things horrible and bad things great.

I don't mind the art style much; I think more anime studios needs to try different things and have more flashiness and style rather than a lot of these companies which just use a generic style and change the features a bit. Studios like Madhouse, GAINAX, 4C, and SHAFT seem to be the only ones willing to take this on.


And, Des, GAINAX isn't making fun of western cartoons; they say this is a throw-back to old gross-out cartoons and kids' action cartoons. There's heavy inspiration from Invader Zim and Powerpuff girls, and a lot of homage to things like Ren & Stimpy.

Just watched the first episode (or, episodeS?), it was a lot better than I was expecting lol. Pretty funny, awesome animation(and good outro); only think I didn't like was Chuck, just because he looks so much like Gir, but he's NOTHING like him, it's almost a slap to the face for me =/ Looking forward to the 2nd episode.

Great production values; the fairly odd (for an anime at least) art style fits very well with the style of animation being used. In addition, it has amazing use of perspective, and everything is constantly in motion.

The soundtrack is wicked; some really funky beats, fast-paced electric music, punk guitar riffs, and shibuya-kei splattered all over the place.

I agree, I wasn't so pleased to watch this at first but when I got down to it, it was freakin' awesome! The style actually goes with the action and humor.

I loved the fast paced dude, he was lulz.

That second episode was the best this time
It felt like they were parodying Mean Girls in the first one and in the second on they were ofc. parodying Sex and the cite XD

Your right, the second episode was hilarious! I didn't think they were parodies at first but once sex in the daten city came up, everything just clicked.

Looking odd is one of the great things about it. It's not something generic, as seemingly everything else that has come out in the last few years has been.

The title a parody on Anarchy In The UK by Sex Pistols.
t.a.t.u, Kizz, Lady Gaga, The Beatles, U2(?), Gorillaz, King Crimson, Elvis, Guns n`Roses, Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and more. Think maybe Miley Cyrus - Party in the USA was in there.
Some of the album covers flowing there was: Pink Floyd - The Division Bell, Nirvana - Nevermind and the rest I don`t know either.
