    Default How to learn Japanese?

I'm really interested in learning Japanese but I don't know how to. I don't have classes here nor will my parents probably won't let me + I don't wanna spend money because if my brother finds out I'm BUYING stuff for language he'll take the piss out of me and annoy me.

So any sites on how to learn Japanese or basic Japanese stuff, from then on I'll try and learn more advanced stuff.

I've been using the free app on Android, Human Japanese Lite. Not sure what the paid version is of it, but have learnt Hiragana, working on a few phrases right now, then will start working on Katakana. Then will find something for Kanji.

Need to see whats the difference between Human Japanes Lite and the full version is.

"Human Japanese" is also a good professional application that was ported to Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone. It's $20 but it's very useful.

If you have a lot of money, Rosetta stone is a good place to start. But the thing is that it isn't really immersion like they say. But if you aren't the person who has loads of money I would suggest that you look on the internet and search for free japanese lessons and really work hard on those until you are ready to call yourself "advanced". Then the best way to move on from there is take a long vacation to japan and try to only speak japanese while you are there. It all is about immersion , the more japanese immersion you have, the better. I hope i helped.

Hmm well the best way to start learning would be a class if it is offered at your school but if not then you could always go to some computer programs such as Human Japanese or other major language learning programs.

There's a site that I use on a regular basis called livemocha.com. They offer basic courses in over 20 languages (including Japanese, ofc). Standard lessons consist of vocabulary/grammar along with audio references, review, writing, and speaking exercises. The written and spoken exercises are submitted to a community of native speakers to review and correct your work, and to give you advice on how to improve. In other words, you can meet Japanese speakers while learning the language at the same time.

Well, this fall I'm going to college for Japanese as a minor, so that's one way you can learn
However, it seems you aren't college age, so you have a few options:
    1) Ignore your brother (This is what I do). If its your money, buy stuff with it. That's what it's for, after all. Better than spending money on worthless things like gum.
    2) The Internet. In this age of information, can you afford to be ignorant? I think not. Lots of free resources out there.
    3) Carefully listen to anime. However learning the mechanics of the language beforehand will greatly help. There's some silliness with the order of subject and verb which I forget in addition to other little things I don't know (but soon will).
    4) See if you and some buddies can get your school to start something to do with Japanese language, whether a club or whatever.
    5) Save up a bunch o' money and get Rosetta stone (a few hundred bucks. Scary, eh?).

That's all I can think of. Brain is too tired from reaching a higher consciousness due to eight hours of menial labor today.
