Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Like I always cried to some parts on Sailor Moon, Eden of the East & the Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I feel like a complete wuss & less of a man when I do but for some reason I feel what the characters feel at the exact moments in the shows and then my eyes start weeping & watering, I get very weak & then I cry.
I feel like a joke just for mentioning this now lol

I think the only thing that makes you less of a man - is THINKING that crying makes you less of a man. Hope that makes sense. My bf cries in tv and movies as much as I do. It just means you're sensitive and caring, which in my books is a good thing.
BTW - have you seen Clannad? If that doesn't make you cry there is something wrong with you!

I get tearjerked and get so moved i cry, at the end of Angel Beats and a few others even just the thought that such a good anime is now over and that there will be no more has brought me to tears.

Sorry I just can't picture crying over cartoons.

It's not the picture, it's the story those pictures create.

I don't like crying in movies either.

That's silly. It shouldn't matter if you're a boy or girl crying to anime. If it makes you sad, it makes you sad.

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Crying is for the weak! -obviously I'm kidding...-
anywho, don't see anything wrong with that, its actually nice to see a guy cry over the story of something ... since, it means the anime/story did its job right, which was convey its feelings to the audience
as for Clannad, I cried because, I was thinking of everyones emotions and it just got to me..
If you watched Angel Beats! ending, well semi ending.. I was not ready!! xD
anywho, nah its fine,
now if you don't cry your either..
A. Un-emotional
B. Had no clue what was going on
xDD

Men who can cry gain respect in my books. It shows that they're emotionally connected to others. :3

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Literary analysis has ruined my ability to cry to sub-par plot developments (e.g. the vast majority of anime).
Does it make you any less of a man? ...well, on the upside I haven't read any studies that link crying to spontaneous sex reassignment.

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
well, there's a saying "Men can only cry when a member of their family die"

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
I'm a verry sensitive person, i can be emotionaly moved to tears and that doesn't make me, or anybody else any less of a person. I don't care what anybody says i'm confident in myself. However i don't like it when guys overly express there emotional episodes: "I am a guy and i cried to this!" "I bawled my eyes out to this... And i'm a guy!" Nobody gives a fuck, it doesn't make a damn difference if you are a guy or not. Society has this strange perspective that crying is for the weak, i'm not a weak person.

Quoted because I agree with this. Crying because of touching or sad scenes means that you have a heart. It means you're sensitive enough to feel what it's like to be in the same position. I, for one, will cry when sad scenes come. Not bawling, just tearing up, lol. If you're bawling, then there IS something wrong. o.o

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
It's not about being a man. It's the fact that it would feel silly to me.
I think you guys kind of accused me of trying to sound like a "man" lol

Okay this is embrassing but when I was a little kid I cried with the pokemon on the first movie. When Ash got turned to stone and all the.pokemon started crying I.just couldn't help it.
Then I cried a few years later after hearing Bleach was ending. And then again on the final ep. Am I man. Hear me Cry.

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
I thought about this myself, getting into anime a bit later in life and felt kind of silly to be watching 'cartoons', and said cartoons making me cry! And I'm more of a show no emotion on the outside kind of guy. But when I'm by myself watching a show I get really into it, heart racing, edge of seat, etc. In fact I wouldnt really call an anime good unless I cried once or twice in it I think! Its all about the story, and how much your in-tune with it.

@ Jasanime
No, I haven't seen it so no I haven't cried to it
@ Road
I know what you mean, I cried at the end of Eden of the East, I won't say what happened just in case no-one's seen but the last bit made me cry and so did the end of the Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
@Princess Cupcake
Thanks hun.
@ Cantelope
@ CrimsonMoon
I definitely feel something when I cry to movies, shows and such, I feel the person's pain/joy in the storyline and get so moved/touched that I just start streaming tears of over the masterpiece of the directors & writers and sometimes I like that feeling & crying because the emotion is so beautiful because I understood & enjoyed the story of that motion picture!
@ Hollow Ichigo
I cried when I watched Lion King... and Titanic :sweatdrop

Your problem is that you're worried about being a man. Everyone does weird things, and the fact that you do something weird like crying to anime is simply circumstantial to the actual problem.
You need to ditch the attitude that you must do and must not do certain things to be a man. This attitude is unfair to you and to the men around you. No behavior is going to change the fact that you are a man. People who say men are supposed to this and not do that (you are currently among such people), are only making life harder for men by putting them in cages. All behavior protocols should either be applied to all humans equally or to no one.
When it to being a wuss, the question is whether you're think you are being too cautious or not. If you are cautious to the point that it is detrimental to you or you friends, then you either need to be less cautious or get different friends. I don't think crying during an anime is applicable.

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
Nah, people are say you're a wuss are just weak and ignorant. Men are allowed to show emotion as well.
Also, I liked The Vow. >_>

Guilty as well.
Crying during shows isn't anything to be embarrassed about. To find yourself so emotionally connected to something shows just how good it is and makes you human.
In my early days as an anime fan I was hugely into Rurouni Kenshin, and when I watched the 'Trust & Betrayal' OVA's for that I don't mind saying I cried as it came to a close. I found it made me appreciate the overall experience more.

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
I think that crying has a somewhat therapeutic effect when you do it every once in a while and there's nothing strange in shedding a few tears when watching anime. Especially certain genres , where you have lots of moments which are meant to tear you up .
I remember i couldn't hold back my tears when i was watching Hajime No Ippo . I won't go into details ; its the scene in the hospital when his mother collapsed and he was saying he will abandon boxing .

Re: Is it weird that I'm a guy and I'm crying to anime?
It depends , are they manly tears or preteen girl tears?
